  • washing the waffle weave..

used my waffle weave towel last eveninga nd it worked great for half of my car. then it started to streak so i switched towels. i think i'm going to be buying another ww because 2 will do a excellent job on my car.

    for the towel.

my question is. what's the proper washing and drying method for the towel? can it be washed with MF towels?

also what is the proper method for washing the ultra plush towels?

    thanks in advance.

I don't now if this is "right" but I do this all the time with no problems to date. all my micro fibers get washed together in the gentle cycle, cold water with woolite. one extra run through the rise cycle and hung dry. I wash any of my terry towels seperate. as long as you keep the micro fibers away from the cotten towels you should be fine. if you wash the two together you take a good chance of the microfibers picking up lint from the cotton.

thanks man. i'm aware of the how to wash the MM's I think. I was looking for more help with the ww towel from the pros. but thanks though! I did pick up wool lite after reading some posts on here. washed the MF's in the wool lite and they came out like new.

        Hey,

As long as you wash only MF together, you will be just fine. I tend to wash the waffle weaves by themselves in hot water with liquid Tide. I then allow them to air dry.

are you saying that you keep the ww seperate from the rest of your mf's ? if so whats the thinking behind that? I was afaird to use hot water, good to know I can!

            Hey 2000,

Sorry I did not answer sooner. I was tied up with some other forum stuff.

Anyway, yes, I do wash my waffle weaves separately. The reason I do so has to do with the products I have used on my waxing MF's. As you know, removing #21 from a foam pad is almost impossible! The stuff will not break down even with Dawn soap!!! My thinking is that if any of the #21 residue on my MF's is accidently transferred to the waffle weaves during the washing process, my waffle weaves may not be as absorbant for water. Now with that said, I may be going over board and being far too cautious, but it is the system that I have used and have not had problems with at all. Just in MHO!

first off, as busy as you are I'm always amazed you can answer my questions so no apology needed!

that makes great perfect sense to me, I never gave any thought to wax transfer. I am changing my wash procedure from here on out. thanks for some more great advice. however I'm not to happy that now I have one more load of laundry to do.

I wash the towel's with regular detergent. But when it come's to drying them I don't use a fabric sheet with them.

I have 2 Meguiar's waffle weaves and I washed them once together with warm water and woolite on gentle cycle and they turned out like new. Dried in dyer on low. Since they don't have stains in them and all they do is pick up water woolite worked great. I only use tide to get rid of stains and if something needs really good cleaning. But you can wash your ww with microfibers no problem I'm doing that next time.
edit: oh yeah in the final rinse use a little distilled white vinegar. I just learned that it'll remove all traces of detergent.

                    Hey F-150,

Did you read my post above and my rationale? I was talking with Mike the other night and we were discussing the difficulty of removing the detergent resistant #21 from the foam pads. As I said, if there is any transfer of #21 residue from the MF to the WW, it could prevent the WW from absorbing as much water as possible. Hence the reason for washing them separate. In the end, it may or may not affect the WW ( I am currently testing the products to see the result), but the issue is still one to consider.

How often should the ww be washed? After each time they're used? Can I let them air dry in the garage between uses without washing them?

                      Thanks in advance.

                        Hey,

I guess it depends on if the WW obtained some visible dirt on it or not. I like to machine wash mine after 3-4 uses. I then hang to dry in my basement rather than the garage.

FWIT after your post I took my ww back to the washer and gave them two wash cycles without any of my other MF. now I know this could just be a mind thing, or even weather conditions, but it seemed like I got further before the ww loaded up. the ww acted more like it did when it was new, so I would say your theroy has proven its self to me.
