  • Which Car Wax

    Hi,

I am quite new to detailing. I started last weekend and just want to detail my own cars, so no worries if I mess up. Anyway, I have 4 vehicles to do...

Hi have already made up my mind on some products.

    Glass:
    Stonner Invisible Glass
    Rain-X

    Waxing:
Meguiar's Nxt Spray Wax ( I like it better than the Gold Stuff)
    Meguiar's Even Coat Applicator

    Cloth Products:
    Meguiar's Super Plush Terry

What I want to know is what is the easiest thing to dry a car with and what do I use to remove wax. I will be doing everything by hand. No power tools for me

Do I need a microfiber or that Meguiar's 3x faster drying thing? Essentially, I want to be able to dry without needing more than about 1 or 2 towels and maybe a finishing towel that stays very dry.

    Soap/ Detergant:
    Undecided

I am currently using car wash that is not very good. I need you to suggest which car wash soap/detergent to use.

Is the Gold or the Nxt soap better?

I also need to know to use a sponge, or a mitt... what do I use to wash with?

    ____________

    Thank you very much.

Please tell me the correct soap, towels, wash mits/spounge. And what I need to remove wax.

Also, please avoid recomending any Professional products in the tan containers as I do not think I want enough product to do hundreds of cars, and it would be difficult for me to acquire professional products. I can very easily get any Consumer grade Meguiar's product.

I used my leaf blower for the first time today to dry the car. It was great! I used a towel to get the few drops that were left and it was barely wet!

      Jbirk,

One thing I would say about the waxing is the Spray wax is suppose to be used as a touch up between waxings of NXT Tech Wax. You can still use the spray wax between applications, but it will not provide the same type of protection as a good coat of the NXT Tech Wax.

For washing I use the Meguiars Wide Body Brush which helps cut down on the wash time. I would recommend it if you have 4 cars to do If you decide to use it, pick up two 5 gallon buckets and use one for rinsing the brush and the other for the soapy water. It will really help reduce the chances of wash induced swirl marks.

For the drying I use the Water Magnet and absolutely love it! I take the spray nozel off of the hose and do a final rinse after washing which helps the water "sheet" off of the car and reduces the amount of water left that you have to remove with a drying product. Then blotch (versus rub) the remaing water from the car to reduce the chance of swirl marks. The only down side to the Water Magnet is once it gets saturated it will spread the water around the car instead of absorbing it...so you may want to get two.

Finally, for the soap I am currently using the Deep Crystal soap which will probably last me another 50 washes....so it will be awhile before I get to test the Gold Class or NXT soap....I am sure someone else on the forum will have an opinion....

      Hope this helps,

      G-

Sorry for the confusion I have a bottle of the NXT Tech Wax Spray. The same one your link points too and I love the stuff. It is so much better than the carnuba based products I used to use.

I am going to get the Water Magnet tomorrow.

I still don't know what car wash to use. Nxt or the Gold?

Also what should I use to wash the car with a mitt?

Um, Yo usaid you have a bottle of Nxt Tech Wax Spray. That is still only meant to be a touch up between applications of Nxt Tech Wax (paste or liquid). The Tech wax, and Tech wax spray are two different things.

The water magnet is geat, though I use a couple.

Nxt and Gold washes are both fantastic. Nxt may clean a little better, and is much better for hard water. Gold leaves the best shine and slickness afterwards.

I use a Chenille wash sponge, so I guess I will recomend the Chinlille wash mit...

Okay, so I need a wash mitt.

Here is what I have on my list of things to buy.

Meguiar's Quick Detail Spray and Quick Clay

            Nxt Tech Liquid Wax

            More of the Even Aplicators

            Meguiars Tar and Bug remover.

Some form of mitt to clean.

Which car wash would you use the Gold or the Nxt?

You said Gold leaves a better shine, but Nxt cleans better and works with hard water.

I know I have hard water in Sothern CA, and I do want a really clean car when done. However, Nxt doesn't leave the car as shinny you said.

Is Nxt Car wash safe for both Nxt Polymer waxes and Carnuba products?

I just want the product that cleans the best, works with hard water, and won't damange wax.

Which car wash should I buy?

            Thanks.

I am getting closer to knowing exactly what to do here.

I did some checking and the Nxt Car wash comes in a larger container, but is likely thinner. The Gold class stuff is supposenly thicker and comes in a smaller container. The gold car wash is more expensive. Does that make it better than the Nxt car wash?

I don't care which one as the cost isn't the issue. I could easily buy both but I don't have the time to try both. I would like to know which to get. Nxt says it is synthetic and controls spotting with hard water. Gold says it leaves a conditioner behind that keeps thinks shinny. I just don't know.

            Any ideas?

Also, I see there is Quick Detailer and Speed Detailer. Which is better?

If you plan to use a spray wax after washing, then it doesnt matter at all. Go with the Nxt.

If not, then it is up to you. Cant tell you which to pick. Both are absolutely fantastic, you wont go wrong. ... Just pick one, and try it. Then try the other....

And both are compatible with all of Meguiars waxes.

I am going to buy the Liquid wax tomorrow as it has been stated here that Spray Wax is for Maintainence.

I wills tart using the spray for maintainence and buy the liquid stuff tomorrow.

I have the following on my list now:

                Nxt Car Wash
                2 x Water Magnet
                2 x Chenille Wash Mitts
                2 x Plush Super Terry
                1 x Supreme Shene Microfiber

Nxt Tech Liquid Wax (not the spray)

                More Even coat Applicators

                Tar and Bug Remover

Quick Clay & extra Quick Detailer

                Speed Detailer

How does my list of things I need look so far?

                    Okay, will do.

I will get at least 3 of them, but I am not sure I need 5. If I do turn out to need more, well I will just pick-up more.

You can never have too many microfiber towels.

Perhaps it’s true for your local supplier but to say GC “comes in a smaller container” is only partly accurate. NXT comes in 64 oz jugs. GC comes in 16 oz, 64 oz, 128 oz and, if you shop at Costco, 1.25 gal containers. GC is my preferred wash.

Looks like you have a pretty good shopping list. Not sure if you can wait for an order from Meguiars, but the 5 pack of Supreme Microfiber's for $15 is a great deal.

The fact that GC comes in a smaller container may make it easier for you to try first, but thats the only real benefit.

I think both have about the same recomended use volume/gallon, so thicker or thinner doesnt really matter. Still the same number of washes per container.

And as for the supreme shine microfibers, it is best to plan on 1-2 per product you plan on using, on an average sized car.

I bought the 64 oz Container of the Nxt Wash

And the 16 oz Gold Class Wash.

I washed with the NXT first and then washed again with Gold Class.

I used 2 buckets, 2 Grit Guards, 2 Chenille Mitts, 2 Bucket Method, and rinsed without a nozel on my hose.

I dried with the Water Megnet.

I had the best results of any car wash I have ever done. The Nxt really made my car very clean. The Gold Class didn't clean much probably because the Nxt already cleaned it, but it did sort of make it shine.

I notice the Gold Class is a little bit thicker stuff, but I like both.

I got washing a car figured out finally

Since you are doing all of your detailing by hand, I would get the NXT Paste Wax. It sets up more quickly and is very easy to use. You may *possibly* get more durability from the paste also. I like the liquid, but I like the Paste better. With the paste, it is easier to regulate the amount of product you put on you applicator pad. Any liquid is going to come gushing out.

Also get some NXT Speed Detailer. Best QD around IMHO, and it is part of the NXT System. Use it every day when it is not raining and you will not have to wash the car as often. Oh, and get a Meguiars Body Duster to get the heavy dust off before you QD.
