  • Polishing and Waxing New Paint

I just bought a new Toyota Tacoma. How long should I wait before I put on its first coat of polish and wax? I read that you should wait 3 months. Does this sound reasonable?

First i would check the manufacture date. If its been a few months since it was manufactured then you should be just fine. You can usually locate it on the stickers in the door jam, or on paper that was on the window at the dealership.

"Fresh" paint means paint that was sprayed on in a shop and needs 3 months to cure out in the air. This is what you must avoid waxing.

New car paint is baked on at the factory, and then sits around for at least a few weeks in different lots. It is well cured by the time it reaches you. You can do the whole 5 steps right away.

Incidently, Claying a new car is a very good thing to do. It can make a huge difference. And you can polish fresh paint, just not put a sealent/wax over it. (I think any polish is ok, but maybe one of the pros can chime in to be sure.) You are safe right away though.

        Hey,

By the time the car has reached the dealer's lot, the factory paint will be cured and ready to be waxed.
