  • how do I remove the decals the dealer installed

    Hi all,
I have a question, when I bought my car, the dealer installed his little white decal letters on my trunk with the name of the dealership. I would like to remove this safely but not sure how to approach it, any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,

I have used a haidryer before, you just have to ensure that you polish the area after removal.

Yeah, like he said, youll need to heat it up so they realease some. They are just stickers, so you can pull them off easily. You will probably have some residue on the surface, sometimes you can clay bar it to get it off. Another option is Go Gone, or actually as strange as it sounds, peanut butter sometimes works as well. Either way make sure you polish and wax that area again.

Try WD-40. I used on my 10 year Grand Marquis and the dealer sticker came off.

            Hi Tom,

Like the others have mentioned, you need to heat the decal up. I would suggest moving the car so that the decal is in the sun. Then using either very hot water or a blow dryer (be careful not to damage the paint) gently remove the sticker.

I have removed many of these stickers. Just take your time. Follow up by cleaning the residue with an adhesive remover like Meg's Body Solvent or maybe WD-40. Just make sure to re-wax the area.

be careful of the goo gone. I used it once on my travel trailer and the paint came with the adhesive. save that as a last result and test in a hidden area. might of just been my type of paint, but it was a new trailer so age wasn't it.

I just used wax floss for your teeth to remove mine. I wedged it in the back and then worked it back and forth to kinda "cut" the decal off. I didn't heat it up first, but I'm sure that wouldn't hurt.

Perhaps you are referring to emblems rather than decals? I am not sure how you could get dental floss under a decal? But the dental floss or fishing line trick under emblems works great!

It is pretty warm here and my black car was sitting outside in the sun all day, it didn't take much work with a hair dryer to peel off the decals. Once I had them off, I used PRO-SOL to remove the remaining glue and residue. It left the area a little dull looking, so I used scratchX by hand and followed that up with #7 and then NXT paste. You can't tell there was ever a decal there, worked like a charm. Thanks everyone...

Oh. My bad. Well, what he did worked anyway.lol But, if you ever need to take off emblems, go with the floss.

I hate when dealers put there decals on the car. I don't care where I got the car from and the decal is coming off when I get home anyway.
