I'm Sooooo Close !!

I finally had the time this weekend to spend some "quality" time on my new 2005 Ebony Black Sonata...only 3 months old....I used:

Nxt Car Wash
Quik Clay
ScratchX for a couple of bird drop etchings and water marks
#80 with PC, removed by hand
NXT Liquid with PC, removed by hand

bunches of Microfiber towels later, I'm happy with the results....the only thing that is keeping me from being ecstatic are the horizontal surfaces, the hood and trunk primarilly....after applying and removing #80 I saw a HUGE difference in the gloss and there were absolutely no swirls or cobwebbing...I was pumped to see what it would look like after the NXT....it's great but in some spots on the hood it's "blotchy" for lack of a better adjective...I'm going to try another coat of NXT this weekend to see if it goes away but I thought I did everything buy the book and it's 95% there....would removing the NXT with the PC make a big difference ?....I know I can get this to 99.9%

Black is a tough color but I look at some of the pictures that SuperiorShine puts out there (like his last BMW post) and I wonder where I need to improve....I'll post a pic tonight as I didn't have time today.....

I think you'll find two thin coats of NXT will leave a uniform appearance as well as a uniform layer of protection.

Thanks Mike....I was ultra careful to apply a very thin layer of wax this time and using the PC really helped...I'll apply another thin coat and see if it makes a difference....otherwise I'm very pleased with the outcome...I think next time I'll apply a pure polish before the NXT to even bring out more of the gloss...it's a learn as you go process as you know and I still have a lot to learn

After NXT has had a chance to cure, the finish usually smooths out a little.

TKDDAD - I too have a black car and have experienced the same situation, along with other members who have black cars. Speed detailer the next day should do the trick. Better yet, follow Mike's advice and apply a second coat to ensure uniformity

Happened to me also. Speeddetailer the next day does/can work, but here its to hot most days for that, and it just makes it worse looking. In the evening you can’t see these blotches, because they are really just darker spots on the black paint.

Another thing I have tried is to rinse the effected area the next day with a bucket of warm water, and then dry with a plush micro fiber, and like magic it looks all even without using a lot of product. You can then add another thin coat if you like, or just go on with your day. Strange thing is I only had this happen with NXT, not with any of their other wax products. And it normally happens when applying it by hand and not the pc.

Thanks for the advice....I did put some NXT Speed Detailer on it this morning (4:30 a.m. garage door closed , people think I'm nuts already about this car) and it looks BEAUTIFUL !!....my buddy came over last night to look at some electrical work I need done in my house and I offered to barter with him...he does my electrical, I detail his 1999 F-150...after he saw my car, he agreed !....thanks again....for all your help!!!

I noticed that too when I first tried it.

Not had too much trouble with PC application.

Glad to hear that your ride turned out so well! I am sure it looks fantastic!!

One thing to try for the future...after applying the NXT Tech Wax with the W-9006 pad (PC set to speed 3) to the paint, try removing the product with a Meguiar's Ultimate/Gold Class Microfiber Bonnet over a clean W-8006 Polishing pad with the PC set to speed 5. I know you will be impressed with the results!!!

Tim, thanks for that advice and I will certainly try it next time...having difficulty locating the bonnets here so I may have to buy on line....but for sure, I will try the bonnet with the PC set on 5...one thing that confuses me about that though is that when I use a regular MF towel, I have to keep turning it so I have a clean side to work with....how do you accomplish that with the bonnet ?....do you use two and go over the car twice ?....

The bonnets are reversible. So after removing the product on one side, I turn the bonnet inside out and use the fresh side. On larger vehicles, I do tend to use 2 bonnets. Trust me, you will love the finish!!
