Questions about random orbital sanders

Hey peeps, I have searched on the topic but need more info

What rpm range should i be looking for?
Is variable speed a must?
For the Meguiar's Pads will i need a 125mm(5") or 150mm(6")?

I'm in australia so the PC and G-100 are out, I was looking at makita,bosch, etc a quality unit
Would a makita b06040 be overkill at 750w 1600-5800rpm

Any help would be appreciated
