I don't know about you guys, but I ALWAYS put my vehicles in the garage when they are at home. I've made it into a habit.

Even if I just stop by the house for 2 minutes. That's why they make electric garage door openers, isn't it?

I can understand not always putting your vehicle in the garage while at home if you don't have room, but otherwise the few extra seconds it takes can save you hours cleaning or fixing (if the neighborhood kids play football and use your driveway for an end zone).

As stated earlier in this thread, I live close to train tracks (Norfolk & Southern's main line between New York & New Orleans). We get a freight train about every 60 minutes on average to pass by.

I keep my two cars (Dodge & Toyota) parked in the driveway in the back yard. The Dodge gets a good washing each week, but the Toyota is in need of motor work and I don't wash it but about every 3 to 4 weeks as it's not drivable at the moment.

Recently, I detailed both cars again. But this time I noticed that the Toyota had major rail dust on the trunk lid. It was so bad that you could see tiny rust spots on the finish.....The Dodge on the other hand did not have nearly as much of this type of contamination.

After seeing the results for this unplanned experiment for myself, I have come to the conclusions that excess rail dust can be removed with proper washings, as long as it's done on a regular basis before the tiny particles get a chance to bond to the finish.

I guess there's a lot of variables that can play into this though, and your experiences may differ from mine.

We moved our forum to a new, faster server and after the migration we discovered a glitch with one of the photo databases. The glitch will be fixed but not until our Webmaster returns to work next week as he's traveling an unable to work on the fix until he returns.

            Thank you for your patience.
