    a question about scratches -

if after using #83 cleaner/polish and NXT wax there are still scratches in the paint using the DA polisher, what is the next step to getting out the scratches in the paint.

i also used scratch x by hand and that didnt work either. i will say that all swirl marks and slight blemishes all came out and the quality of the paint really shines now. any advice?

        Hi tomsawyer,

In most cases, if the #83 DACP with a PC on the 5.0 setting isn't removing your scratches and swirls, then the next step is to substitute a rotary buffer in place of the PC.

Some people have posted getting good results using more aggressive products or pads, but Meguiar's doesn't recommend this, and my experience has shown me that while getting more aggressive with a PC may remove deep defects, it tends to leave the finish looking dull.

          thanx everyone for replying.

          mike -

initially i used the da polisher on #4 setting with a 7006 pad. the scratches are on the engine hood and trunk lid. side panels and doors are perfect.

would you recommend i do the trunk and engine hood alone with #83 and polisher on #5?

For what it's worth, I use the PC with #83 all the time. A speed setting of 5 is fine, but I would not dare go to 6. If you cannot keep the pad flat on the paint then you've got the speed too high.

I concure with the others regarding a trained professional for those nasty scratches that the PC cannot tackle. A rotary buffer is the detailer's Samurai Sword. In the hands of the right person wonderful things can be acheived. Conversly, in the hands of the untrained you can cut your head clean off.
