  • #80 with an orbital buffer?

I know that the G100 is the weapon of choice for this product however since I already own a couple of 6" orbital buffers I was hoping that I could make the most of them since I don't really wan't to spend $100+ for a PC7336 & accessories.

I understand the differences between the polishers. Obviously the orbital is a much slower unit and oscilates unlike the much faster adjustable speed PC. But that leads me to my main question...

Will the orbital be able to work #80 in to a somewhat desirable finish? Is it possible but will just take longer? Or is the Scratch X a better option for the orbital (I read a thread where the combo worked well).

I have used SX by hand and in my opinion takes too much effort for my liking. That is why I want to use the orbital with a good product that will cut through the paint to eliminate some of my minor swirls and etching.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had ever tried this out before and hear what their results were BEFORE I attempted to do it. I don't want to waste my time or money if more than one person was displeased with the end result or felt that it was not worth the effort.

But if nobody has then I guess I'll take a plunge and give it a try. I've already got a tube of SX but the #80 I'd have to go purchase.

If I were in your shoes, then I would opt for the #80/orbital combo myself and see what it does.

If you can find them in the 6" size, try a stretch on foam bonnet and see how that works, compared to the terry type.

#80 is a polish rich product, and coupled with the slower speed of an orbital, you should be able to work it into the finish for an extended period of time without the product drying out on you too soon.

But if #80 starts to look & feel a little tacky, then you need to remove it and check your results.

Post back and let us know how it did.

          Hey,

I have to agree, you never know until you try! Concentrate on doing a small area at a time.

          Please keep us posted!

Yep, I've already got a bunch of foam bonnets that I ordered from Black & Decker. I've always used foam bonnets when I use the orbital.

I'll try it out hopefully this weekend and I will definitley post the results (with pics). I just wish #80 was in a less expensive size...lol.

I used #80 on an orbital a few years ago before i got my pc. It removed scratches and swirls but left terrible holograms in my black paint. I had to remove those by hand. From certain angles the paint was flawless but then you would see the holograms that were so bad it made you dizzy. The holograms were pretty easy to remove by hand, just took an extra few hours to get it right. By the way, my car is black so you can see everything 10 times better.

If you're talking about the quart size, then you'll probably use it up quickly, after you find out how good it is.

Good to the last drop you know!

The ketchup bottle is full though.
