  • Applying what I have learned

Now for the test. This coming weekend my wife has a school reunion. I plan to detail her car. It's a 99 Merc Sable ( bright white) mostly garaged so paint is in great condition. I plan to:

    1. Wash with GC shampoo.
    2. Dry.
    3. Quik Clay, never has been.
    4. Use DC1-2 and work in per the threads in this forum. I always just wiped them on let dry and wipe off.
5.Then 2 thin coats of DC 3. Using even applicator for all of this.
    6. Hot Shine the tires.

Wheels are factory alloy's clearcoated. I just use Megs cleaner wax. Is this just okay or is their something better? I am still learning. Then what about the wheel wells. Does one dress this and if so with what. I also think I will have a sore arm!!
Interior is clean maybe just a touch up.

No need to let either of these dry.......As a matter of fact, it will be harder to remove a cleaner or a polish after it has had a chance to dry, and it might possibly scour the finish too.

Be sure to use the 2 bucket method when washing your car, and use clean cotton terry towels, or microfiber wipes to remove your products with too.

      Hey,

For clear coated wheels, treat them like clear coat paint. I prefer using a sealant on the wheel as sealants can handle the generated heat better than a carnuaba wax. My suggestion would be to use either: NXT Tech Wax, or #20 Polymer Sealant or #21 Synthetic Sealant.

      Cheers!

Thanks guys! I already use the two bucket method. I also use two wash mitts. One for the wheels then the other for the body.
I left out using PlastX on the headlight covers and taillights.
Maybe use some NXT metal polish on the chrome trim.
Have not seen the sealants around here, will call around.

For the wheel wells, I like to dress them with Hyper Dressing at different dilutions depending on what I think would look best on the car. Hyper Dressing is from the detailer's line and I believe a gallon is the smallest size you can purchase from Meguiar's.

I'm sure you could use many of the consumer products. I would pick a dressing in a spray bottle as it makes it much easier than spreading a gel in a wheel well.

            Hey,

I agree with Chris...Meg's Hyper Dressing works fantastic in the wheel wells! I have been using it for quite sometime on my personal truck which sees a lot of mountain roads this time of year (going fishing! ) When I get home, a gentle rinse and wipe down of the wheel wells is often all that is needed!
