  • Argh I am so dumb - rubbing compund

    Hi,
I feel so stupid. I had a small area of paint from a scuff with a painted sign that was on my brand new jeep wrangler. I listened to a neighbor who said I should get it off with rubbing compund. It did take it off but it also really dulled the shine on my paint. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

If you're going to be working by hand, then your best bet is to get some ScratchX and read this how-to article.

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

Depending on how hard the paint is and how deep the scratches are it may take you 2-5 applications. Remember to really work the product against the finish, using anywhere from 8 to 12 pounds of pressure. Work the product until it turns kind of clear but isn't all the way gone. Remove this residue before applying further applications. After your done, apply some wax because paint cleaners don't protect, only remove defects.

    Best of luck...

I did something like that a while back and if i recall right, this is what i did to correct it:

      Fine cut cleaner by hand
      Scratch X about 5-6 times
      DACP with a Porter Cable
#9, SMR 2.0 with Porter Cable
      Deep Crystal Polish by hand
      NXT liquid wax

It's a long process, but my situation was on a black finish, so it was very noticeable so something had to be done. Now you can just barely see the few swirls, the shine is back, it just looks a little swirly.
