  • Are these the right steps...

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to detailing, but excited to learn more. Just want to make sure the following steps are correct.

I have well water and need to get rid of water stains on both my 04 and 05 trucks. I've researched and found that a 1:1 mix of vinegar and water will remove water stains. Do I have to rewash the truck after applying the vinegar, before polishing and waxing?

These are the steps I planned on:

    1- wash truck
    2- apply vinegar solution
    3- rinse
    4- polish
    5- wax

    Thanks for the help.

I have never used vinegar myself but those steps sound right. Do you own a clay bar? If so I would do this before polishing as it will give you a perfectly smooth surface.

Yeah, using a clay bar, and a dedicated paint cleaner after washing couldnt hurt.

        Hi shehateme.......Welcome to MOL!

Let us know if the water spots come out after using the vinegar.

I would also recommend a clay bar, and a dedicated paint cleaner too........I mean if you are going to go through all of those processes, then it would make sense to give the paint a thorough cleaning before the wax is applied.

Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions.

I guess I should look into and research using the clay bar, haven't ever done this yet. I'll also let you know how the vinegar works out with the water stains.

I'm working on a very detailed how-to article for the clay bar. I should be able to post it before Saturday morning. I've obtained a red Corvette that sits outside all the time for the demonstration vehicle.

Thanks, Mike. This would be very helpful.
