  • Questions on MF Towels..

Once the towels have been used, what is the recommended method of washing and drying the towels? Normal washer and dryer combo, or is this not recommended. Any and all help will be appreciated.

At Meguiar's (and at our home), we wash microfiber polishing cloths and foam hand applicator pads in the washing machine with hot water and Tide, then dry in the dryer.

Don't use any fabric softener in either the wash or drying process.

    Store in a clean place.
Don't wash microfiber polishing cloths with cotton towels as the microfiber polishing cloths will act like magnets and attract all the stray fibers onto themselves.

He, Mike I'm having a problem with lint on my MF towels.
I will now wash them with hot H2O, but how do I keep them from attracting lint?

Dee, I'm having the same problem. I washed a few and they attracted all the lint and dust. so it's almost worthless to use now!

Do you wash them by themselves, as in the only thing in the washing machine are microfiber towels? Or are you throwing them in with other items, like bath towels, jeans, socks etc.

I wash and dry them by themselves.
Should I get a seperate plastic container to hold them?
I don't know if this will help or not, I mean its not dust that is colecting on the car, its just lint....
              What are your thoughts.

                My next questions is this,

Are these Meguiar's microfibers polishing cloths, or some generic brand?

The reason I ask is because I've never experienced a linting problem with Meguiar's microfibers and we wash and dry a lot of them.

It's okay if there some other brand, I'm just trying to troubleshoot the root of the problem.

I have washed MF towels with terrys in the past before I knew to keep them seperated...can I still use them? Will the other fibers work their way back out of the MF? I've been having the occasional swirls showing up from freshly cleaned terrys and MFs and it's ticking me off. I bought some more new ones and I want to do it right, so do I delegate the old ones to non-paint surfaces? They don't look dirty, but they sometimes scratch paint. I felt like I was being as careful as possible, but maybe I didn't get the paint surface completely clean either.

I never realized how sensitive clearcoat is!

well wouldn't it attract the lint in the drying machine and not the washing machine? could i wash them all together and then dry the MF's seperate?? i know mine are generic MF's.

My next question, where in PA can I buy Meguiar's MF towels?? I've only seen the generic brand MF towels.

IT will take you some time, but go through your washed and dried microfibers and pick off any stray threads or lint, (if possible), and then try washing them by themselves again. Hopefully they'll come out free from ling and stray fibers. Then, make it a practice to only wash microfiber with themselves.

Unless you microfibers are shedding themselves, you shouldn't have any problems, we don't see that problem here at Meguiar's and I don't see it in my wash and drying loads at home.

You can wash and dry them however you prefer, but if you want to do everything you can do to reduce the potential for contamination, then try washing only microfiber polishing cloths with other microfiber polishing cloths.

thank you sir. i'm goign to try and clean them tonight! also i'm tryin to swing by the auto store and see if I can find some Meguiar's MF towels.

also, I know this is not in the right threat, but I washed, dried, and 3 step waxed my Civic 2 weeks ago, it has gotten a little dirty over the past 2 weeks. what should i use to clean it now? just a quick detailer, or should I put another layer wax?

tgfhatch, you make a good point. I run into this alot, in my case I would prefer to detail it with the QD, and then go over it with the wax . I don't know if that is appropriate, can someone chime in here and help me out.
