  • Halloween Egg Dried on Hood!

I was out of town last Halloween, and an egg got tossed on the hood of my Grand Cherokee. My wife didn't do anything, thinking it would come off at the next car wash.

Well, here it is July and it's still there ...

What should I use to get it off?

Wash the car and while washing the car continually saturate the egged area with water to saturate the egg residue. Then last but not least, wash the egged area with plenty of soap and water.

After drying, inspect the area and if you see the egg has left an etching in the finish then get yourself some ScratchX and follow the directions in the below how-to article for removing defects...

How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

After using the ScratchX, at a minimum, apply a wax to the area.

Raw egg is one of the most destructive items that I've ever seen on a car's paint.

I had a car get hit with an egg one time, and I washed it off the next day, but the damage was done.

Had to get the hood, quarter panel, & door repainted because of it.

Good thing I had comprehensive insurance though.

BTW, Welcome to the forum bobat!

Although the egg yolk in itself is detructive to the finish, the egg shell will slice through the clearcoat and you'll see little slices in the paint where the eggshell fragments hit. Repaint is the best recourse unless you're not picky.

My truck got egged before... it took about 5-6 eggs. I washed it off as the egg was still wet with a power washer. The egg didn't eat the paint, however where the eggs hit it left circular etchings in the paint.

Had to get it repainted as well... yeah that to comprehensive insurance!

One also hit the side window... whenever it was warm out there would be a little cloudy spot where the egg was... I HATE STUPID KIDS (of course I was only 18 at the time it happened)...

Thanks for all the bad news ...

Any chance a clay bar might take care of some of the residue?

hard to say. I think it woudl get off any residue on the surface but the problem is that there is the egg has probably etched inot the paint. SO what you need to do is level the paint to the spot of the etching if you can with scratch x.
