  • What is the difference between these Meguiar's protectants?

I was looking at the new Meguiar's catalog (volume 317) and I have a question about the various protectants Meguiar's offers.

I saw the "NXT Tech Protectant", the "Gold Class Vinyl & Rubber Protectant", and the "Meguiar's Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant".

What are the differences in the products?

Which offers the best UV protection?

Which is best for a car's rubber weatherstripping?

Which is the best overall product for protecting and conditioning vinyl and rubber, to help lessen damage and deterioration?

BTW - the new catalog is nice!

That's a good question, as I have trouble with it myself sometimes.

The NXT Tech Protectant was meant to be used on the inside only, where as the other 2 products can be used inside, or outside.

All of these products should offer great UV protection IMO.

I think it's a matter of preference here, but for the outside weatherstripping, I like to use a product called Gold Class Trim Detailer myself.

All of them should excell at this, but again I think it's a matter of preference here.

Sorry if I wasn't more helpful.........Maybe some of the others will give there opinion on these products too.

In my personal experience, NXT Tech Protectant (now called Cockpit Shine or something) leaves an interesting look. It's sort of clean and dark and shiny but not really shiny. It tends to look slightly wet, but generally doesn't feel wet unless you put too much on. The look is pretty natural, but dark and rich. It also gives tires a nice deep black look, but it doesn't hold up well to rain/driving. It has a sort of lime NXT smell to it.

Gold Class R&V Protectant is a rather greasy product. In my experience it goes on rather unevenly on some types of dash material. It also leaves a fairly high shine that is not that natural looking. It also tends to be greasy feeling even after buffing. This is one Meguiar's product that I truly hate. I was using it on tires just to use it up, but couldn't stand it even for that and gave it away.

I have never used Natural Shine.

#40 I find leaves a more matte look than the NXT/Gold Class. It also seems to clean a little more, and is one of my more favorite protectants. It also has more of a new-car/leather chemical smell. It is not greasy or shiny after a wipedown.
