It's all in the process. You have to remove surface defects, swirls, and oxidation to reveal a paint surface that is ready for your LSP (wax). NXT and Gold Class wax both do a great job on black vehicles. If you can find #26, that would be your best bet as it darkens the paint and adds amazing depth.
The best way to apply that wax is to use the dual action polisher with a soft finishing pad like Meguiar's W-9006 Foam Finishing pad.
Your hands cannot duplicate the results a machine can produce for thoroughly applying an even coating of wax. Then if you like, you can remove the wax using the same machine with a microfiber bonnet on a clean dry foam pad. This has the result of completely removing your hand, or your finger pressure points from the process.
Outside of the above, the next best method would be to apply a think coat of the Gold Class Wax by hand using either a foam applicator pad or a microfiber applicator pad.
Allow the wax to fully dry, and then remove using a clean, soft plush microfiber polishing cloth. If you have the time and inclination, 2 thin coats tend to produce a more uniform appearance as well as uniform coverage and protection.
