  • Opinon Request

    Hello,

Like I stated in my previous post I am pretty new to the whole detailing thing, but from reading ALOT of information from this site, Which is outstanding, btw, I wanted to get a few opinons.

With someone "new" to the detailing scene would you recommend them getting a PC and using Megs Pro line of products such as #80 and 83#?

Also would you consider using those types of products combined with the PC as a relativly easy system to pick up?

And finialy, with the G1000 Deluxe detailing case, or the G1100 detailing case, does anyone have a picture or know the deminsons of the case. There isnt one on the website.

    Thanks
    Fervidsea

I would say yes, if you are going to stay interested in detailing as a hobby, get the G100. The results are more rewarding, and come more quickly.

As far as pro vs. consumer lines, I always say there's not much difference, but I always find myself reaching for the pro line products even though I have both.

Start with #80, and get #83 if you aren't getting results from the #80.

I would say that this is a very easy system to learn. #83 takes a little experience to master, but there is absolutely no harm in it; you won't make any mistakes with #83 that can't be easily fixed. Overall, it's about as hard as learning to bake a cake from scratch.

      Just to chime in...

Tom's a friend of mine and a frequent poster to this forum as well as many others and his posts reflect a years of experience and wisdom garnered in both the auto industry in general and detailing cars in specific. His insight often brings much needed information to multiple topics into discussions on this forum and the discussion forums he posts to.

      That said...

When it comes to removing defects out of automotive paints, there's a huge difference between Meguiar's Professional Line and Meguiar's Consumer Line. The cleaner/polishes listed so far in this thread, M80 and M83 are the tops in the industry for this category of products as far as removing paint defects without scouring the finish and producing a clear, smooth, high gloss finish perfect for applying either a pure polish or a wax over.

The paint cleaners in the Consumer Line, ScratchX and Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner do not offer the be cleaning power to go after serious paint defects by machine such as swirls and scratches and at this time, in most cases, best results are achieved when applied by hand.

This is not meant to diminish their importance, or effectiveness because both the ScratchX and the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner are very important and effective products when used for the appropriate applications, such as light cleaning of paint in good to excellent condition, (Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner), or for removing swirls, scratches, oxidation, stains, etc. by hand, (ScratchX).

Here at Meguiar's we like to use the Tool Box Analogy in that Meguiar's products are the tools in a Master Mechanics Tool Box, a Master Mechanic has a specific tool for specific jobs and knows how to []b]choose and use[/b] each tool according to his diagnosis of the paint problem in order to make the necessary corrections.

The tools, (products), in both the Professional Line and the Consumer Line all have their best use scenario, hopefully through the medium of this discussion forum and the input from members like Mosca and others, we can share with everyone which tool will be the best tool for everyone who comes to Meguiar's Online looking for answers to their questions.

Tom hit the nail on the head when he said,

"if you are going to stay interested in detailing as a hobby, get the G100"

The dual action polisher will almost always product better results faster, and with far less energy and time required than the human hands. I have never met anyone who after purchasing a G100 dual action polisher later regretted it. In fact, just the opposite, I often times hear people say they wish they would have known about the dual action polisher years ago...

The dual action polisher is light weight and easy to control. Because the motor oscillates and rotates, it provides effective cleaning ability to remove defects out of paint. If you push down to hard on the unit the motor reacts by slowing down and even stopping both the rotating action and the oscillating action preventing you from swirling or burning through your car's finish.

Compared to working by hand... there really is no comparison... It's easy enough to use and master that anyone with a little practice can be producing professional results in not time...

I guess that's why I never reach for the Consumer Line stuff!

My moniker is "perpetual noob" for a reason: I'm never to experienced to learn, and never so experienced that I won't make mistakes.

I'm usually either working on a friend's car that is trashed and I need the strong stuff, or working on my own cars and they never need much more than a glaze and wax. Curiously, when I need a cleaner, instead of doing the 3 step I use either A12 or ColorX.

Back in 1999, I decided to order a kit from Meguiars with the G-100 included. I didn't pay much attention to the machine details in the magazine at the time, but when I recieved my order, I opened the box and began to look the machine over.

To my suprise, the shaft turned freely with no resistance, and I thought: "This is not what I wanted!" (I thought I was ordering a rotary at the time, because I already had a Craftsman orbital).

I was let down pretty bad after that, and I was about to send it back.......Until I tried it out for the first time.

I couldn't believe how well this thing worked!.........That was 6 years ago, and I haven't sent it back yet.
