  • Need tips after swirl removal!

This is my first post and I've done a little reading of older threads and thought I might ask my own questions.

I am taking my car in this week to have the paint/clear coat cut and buffed to take the swirl marks out. The paint has always had them since I bought the car over three years ago and since I now have a small chance to have the car featured in a magazine, I figured it was time to clean the car up.

What I am looking for are the "do's" and "don'ts" after the swirls have been removed. I know that over time, regular cleaning can attribute to swirls in the paint. What is a really good cloth or sponge to use when washing the car? What is good for drying? Can I continue to use my California Water Blade? What kind of wax should I use and should I apply it by hand? I also garage this car, but what type of cover should I use to keep the dust off it? I have a Covercraft Noah cover when I need to keep the car outside for any period of time, will the be okay to be on the paint without an inner liner?

I know this is a lot of questions. I've never really worried about swirls until lately. I just used to wash, clay bar, and wax the car and it would come out looking great. Now that I know I can get rid of the swirls, I'd like to keep them gone for as long as I can.

Here is the car I am having the work done on.

I also have another one of these cars that has white paint with no factory clear coat. Since this one is not my daily driver, I'd like to take the swirls out myself. Can anyone recommend anything for this? I bought an orbital buffer from Sears several months ago and have not had a chance to use it. The more I read and talk to others, it seems I should not use it.

Any and all tips and advice are appreciated.

    Thanks!

First off, get a Grit Guard and use the two bucket method for washing your car.

As far as the best tools to wash and dry your car go, I would suggest reading up on these things in our Review forums and see what your peers are saying...

Thanks for the tips Mike Phillips.

Alex_Perry, who do you go by over on SHO Forum? The car is a blast, but I'm getting it ready for a possible magazine appearance.

Same name, sans the underscore. I'm more active on a local board, though. www.shopower.com. I still post once in a while at shoforum, though.

Magazine appearance? I've been waiting for a SHO to make it into MM&FF, could yours be the one?
