  • Towel Washing

I was wondering what everyone does in terms of washing towels, mitts, pads, and applicators. Due to the new accessory line my selection of tools has increased and I want to make sure I take care of them in the proper way.

For instance...Is it ok to wash microfibers, terry cloths, water magnets, and even-coat applicators all together? Do you machine dry or air dry? Do you hand wash or machine wash mitts?

If there is an official correct way according to Meguiar's to take care of these products it may be helpful to keep as a sticky.

    Everyone please chime in!

I wash my "best" towels all together... microfibers, waffle weave and so on.

I wash all my "good" towels together... terry towels, applicators, wash mitts.

    Above with woolite

    ----------------------------------------

Really dirty stuff gets washed alone and I will use them only on really dirty jobs and typicaly they only get one last wash, if they don't come clean then after one last dirty job they get tossed.

What do you do with towels used on really dirty areas such as door jams? I typically use around 10 or 15 towels per interior and most are pretty nasty looking afterwards.

      And another question...What is Woolite?

Woolite is a very gentle cleaner. You can pick it up most anywhere thats sells washing liquids. Door jams tend to trap dirt and grime. Don't know why, just use my outside towels on those sections once they get moist or to dusty to use on outside paint.

          Hey Chris!

I tend to wash my "best" MF towels together first, then wash my next best towels second. I like to air dry mine though others have had no issues with using the clothes dryer.

The MF hand applicator: I wash it by hand and then air dry

The foam applicators: I just store up 10 or so and then throw them into the washing maching. Again, I air dry these as well.

          Cheers!

How about wash mitts? Machine washed or sprayed with a hose?

Also, how many cars do you do with each before discarding them?

            Thanks for all the imput.

I have had the same exact question as you. I have been washing everhting all togther in the washer. My nasty towels come clean and dirt doesn't seem to transfer on to the better toweling and microfibers. The only things I air dry are the wash mitts and applicators.

I wash terry towels and hand applicators together......If I think about it, I'll throw in my wash mitt too.

I wash microfibers by themselves, but I have been known to throw in some hand applicators with them.

All of the above get washed in the washer with a Tide/Wisk combo.

But it is a good idea to add white vinegar to the final rinse, as it will remove all traces of detergent residue.

Everthing gets dried in the dryer (Separately) on low heat, except the foam applicators.

                    Hi GB,

Is there any advantage to using Woolite?

We have a gallon of the stuff sitting around, but we don't use it that much.

woolite ( aka/cold water wash is gentle on delicate fabrics )
such as microfiber towels, and it won't leave them feeling coarse.
I don't and wouldn't suggest washing terry cloth towels with them
because the microfiber towels will absorb all of the cotton particles and that will defeat their cleaning ability.

I wash all microfiber towels in 1 load then put them in the dryer
( low heat ) no fabric softener ! and no dryer sheets !

then the next load of terry cloth towels and washmits together,
with woolite ( keeps them soft ) again no fabric softener,or
dryer sheets. ( dryed on low heat )

then all wax,polish,etc... applicators get hand washed in the sink
with dish soap. then hung on the line to air dry.

this is my routine, hope some of it helps you

I have been told for sometime by my mom to use it on "good clothes" they will hold up better so.... I figured that it would be better on my towels. She uses it ALL the time.

                          Thanks Guys,

I have nothing against Woolite, but I wasn't sure if it offered enough cleaning power to remove the dirty residues from detailing towels.

I don't and wouldn't suggest washing terry cloth towels with them, because the microfiber towels will absorb all of the cotton particles and that will defeat their cleaning ability.
I'm in agreement with you here......And the drying part too!

thanx for asking the question i always forget to post when online -- as for me -- i wash my terry/cotton in one load and the mf towels in another -- i only dry my terry/cotton in the dryer -- and let my mf towels hang dry -- i'm using tide for all of the towels and rinsing with vinegar -- can't say i really notice any difference -- i'm kinda experimenting with car care techniques -- therefore i'll give the woolite a try -- good luck with your towels RB --
