  • Help with Tough Scratches

Detailing an 89 Maxima that had horrible scratches on the roof and trunk lid (I suspect grocery bags were dragged across it since 89 LOL).

I used #83 with an 8006 pad and removed a bunch, BUT am looking for help with complete removal. The scratches seem to be all surface stuff, but fairly deep.

What pad/product combo is suggested? It it too bad for a pc and time to try a rotary?

    Thanks All....Totoland Mach

Pictures aren't the best to show the scratces, but relying 100% on the G-100 to get a 100% pristine finish is asking alot. Especially on a 1989 daily driver. lol

Thanks Ranger...you know how it is...you start working #83 and thinking "I know I can remove these scratches " 45 minutes later, they are still there but dimished.

Maybe this should be my incentive to try a rotary.

As more and more people purchase dual action polisher and push this tool's ability to it's limit... I predict the number of [Views for this thread to increase proportionately.

          Here you go Totoland Mach...

PC + 83 not "Cutting" it! (The Limits of Dual Action Polisher)

After reading this, consider experimenting with the rotary buffer. One of our forum members, OctaneGuy, recently purchased a rotary buffer from Harbor Freight for around $30.00 and will be trying his hand at it also. Look forward to his review and insight as he is very good with the dual action polisher but is ready to move to the next step.

Mike: Thanks again for your insight! Say hello to Jose for me..I bought my G100 at the Mustang 40th in Nashville from him.

Okay: I might just invest in a rotary. Next: What backing plate and pads should I start with?

              Hey,

For rotary backing plates, you will want Meguiar's W-64. This plate is for the 6.5" pads, the same ones you use for the PC. I would stick to W-8006 Polishing pads and W-9006 Finishing Pads to start. Later on, you can move to the W-7006 Cutting Pad. It takes time to get the hang of using the rotary. But once you do, you will LOVE using it!
