Question

I have a question regarding some swirls in my paint. I just started this week using the Meguiar's 3 step process. I noticed after the first step, their were slight swirl marks in two places on the car? What would have caused this, and any way for me to remove them? Thanks!

If these swirl marks were not there before you used the paint cleaner (step 1), then the only thing that could have caused it is dirty or contaminated applicator or toweling. to remove them there are many many options. First we need to know whether you will attempt to do this by hand or some sort of machine. If doing it by hand, I reccomend Scratch X.

well I'm almost positive they weren't there before hand! I will be doing it by hand, and not using a powered tool yet. I would like to find out how to get them out! So any tips on products and methods would be appreciated! I read some where on the website, that Scratch X removes paint????

yes, to remove swirls you must remove paint. You have to "cut" the paint (most likely clear coat) to the lowest point of the scratch for a swirl free finish. Dont be worried, you arenot removing large amounts of paint. Try eighter #9 swirl remover or scratch X. Use an applicator pad or quality terry to apply. Make sure to work the either product in completey so that they have time to do their work. You can work in circular or back in forth motion, it doesnt matter because these products wont inflict their own scratch. Work a small section at a time so that you can concentrate you effort more efficienlty.

but it won't be noticable correct if i use the scratch x stuff??? i used a new applicator every time i've used the meguair's stuff, and i've used a new micro fiber towel on each side and end of the car.. grr

I think the thing that gets people concerned ( as it did with me when I first heard about it ) was the word SCRATCH in a product name that is supposed to remove scratches

....Would you buy/trust a product called PluggedX to clear drains ? ....SCRATCHX should be called ScratchOut or SmoothX or something like that...

what will be noticeable when you use it is the defect will be gone !....trust the products and the advice given here...the products work and the people know what they're talking about...

Unless there was some sort of loose contamination (dirt, dust etc...), I cant see the scratches having been produced during any of the steps. It also may just have been two spots where someone had bumped into, or wiped their hand against when the cars was somewhere, which created the swirls and you just havent noticed till you put your face to the paint to work on it. Regardless, don't be affraid to use a product which wears the 'Meguiar' label. Just be sure to follow the directions precisely and nothing can go wrong. Also, I see you said that you used a new microfiber cloth on each side and end of the car, just to reiterate, each product should have its own dedicated toweling. Meaning, once you start using a towel with one product, do not use it with any other product until washed.

i do trust meguiars. that's why i only use meguiar's on my show car! but i'm just trying to learn how to use the scratchx stuff. that's all. i'm not to familiar with that kind of stuff. i do trust what people say on here and i do trust the products! i'm going to try the scratchx stuff this weekend. i'll post up some pics when the full detail is complete.
