  • Need suggestion b4 I begin polishing

I will be detailing my girlfriend's 2002 Volvo (White) this weekend. This car has never been waxed since it was purchased and has a lot of wash inflicted swirls. I want to begin with Meq. DACP and a Meq. W7006 Foam Cutting Pad. I will be using a (PC) DAP. My question is will this combination be too aggressive? I intend on following this step with a W8006 Pad and either some #7 Show car glaze or I can use #9 Swirl polish. I will finish up by applying some NXT with a Meq. W9006 Finishing Pad. TIA

    Hi gman39120...Welcome to MOL!

Try using the W-8006 pad on a test area (#5 speed) 1st to see if this will do the job before trying the W-7006 pad. It takes a little while for the PC to break down the DACP, but don't buff it completely dry.

Either #9, or #7, would be a good choice for a polish, but I might be tempted to use #9 and then #7 before applying NXT.

Also, you might want to try #9 as the 1st cleaner before trying the DACP....A good rule of thumb, is to try the least aggressive product 1st.

Thanks for the tip RB. I probably should have mentioned that I had already attempted using a W8006 by trying some #9 and some 3M Scratch Remover. This procedure was removing the swirls but at a very slow rate. I polished the hood on 3 different occasions and only removed about 60% of the scratches. That's why I ordered the DACP and the W7006. I have also clayed the surfaces.

        Your welcome gman!

I had the same problem Saturday while buffing a Buick Century...I eventually switched over to the W-7006 pad with DACP.

I didn't get all of the scratches out (Some were deep), but I thought I got better results with this combo. One thing that I noticed was that the DACP broke down quicker with the cutting pad, than with the polishing pad.

I am still new to Body Shop Pro line (which includes DACP), so I am still learning how to use these great products.

To bad I don't have a digital camera yet...The Buick looked great after applying #83, #82 & NXT.
