Meguiar's currently does not offer any products for fabric convertible tops like canvas, only vinyl convertible tops.

Before we can make a specific recommendation, we need to know what the material you're working on is made out of. A good picture would help.

What are the windows? Could I use the PlastX to clean those up and remove the million swirl scratches on them?

Apparently you can do a lot with Plastic-X.....after seeing what Superior Shine did with it, I am going to pick up a bottle and find something to use it on.......

              Check out this thread......

I've never used PlastX myself, but I don't see why you couldn't use it.

I had good success with #17 &, #10 when it come to cleaning clear plastics, such as windows on vinyl tops.

Does the #39 clean and shine or does it just clean. would I still get exellent results if I scrub with soap and use the vinyl protectant?

I think it has some vinyl treatment qualities to it if you spray it on and wipe it off, instead of rinsing it off.......As a matter of fact, the bottle instructions suggests that you wipe it dry, instead of rinsing it.

                    Either way is ok though.

M39 is a dedicated vinyl cleaner, it will leave vinyl and other surfaces you clean with it looking very matte. You should not use the M39 by itself. If you plan on using this product, or cleaning with soap and water, you should always follow up with some time of protectant dressing.

From my experience cleaning very neglected vinyl roofs and convertible tops, I would say that "no" soap and water will not clean as well as a dedicated vinyl cleaner, especially when you use a brush or cloth to agitate the vinyl cleaner.

I used #39 on some rubber trim Saturday. My technique was to wet a toothbrush type of tool, tap out the excess water, and spray a little product on the brush before scrubbing the 1" trim (This is a great way to prevent the the product from running down the paint).

Once the product filled brush was applied, the dirt began foam up quickly. I would then begin to wipe the trim clean with a damp rag. After that, I would rinse the rag in a bucket of clear water to remove the dirt. By the time I was finished doing all of the trim, I had dumped 3 or 4 buckets of black water!..........The rubber trim was dry looking, but clean.

Next, I applied Gold Class Trim Detailer with a 1" makeup sponge........After it had a chance to set up, I then wiped off any excess residue that had made it's way onto the paint.

The trim looked as good as new after that!
