  • Heavy rain two days after wax!?!?!?!

Mike, the information you provide is priceless. I'll probably never see the day when i don't gain useful knowledge from MOL. Keep up the good work!

Anybody out there have a recommendation for the following scenario?:

I washed, ColorX'd and GC'd (2 coats) my car and my girlfriend's G35 this weekend, then lo and behold, rain the following night - ugggghhhhh.

I just read a thread here on MOL which had information stating that wiping the car off after waxing will 'remove' wax. Other than washing, is there a procedure (i was thinking a spray wax with MF, for example) which will not diminish my shine and wet (pardon the pun ) look after a rainshower?

Your help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

are you happy at the moment of how your car looks? just because there was a heavy rain, doen't mean there is no wax left. unless it was like a hurricane. Here is the Squeak test that you can use to see if you still have wax left on your car. but the best option would be to give it a quick wash if it is dirty with a quality car wash such as Gold class car wash which will not strip the wax. and as Mike says, "the only way to get that nice waxed look, is if you just finished waxing your car" or something like that

You should be fine as far as protection. Just give it a quick wash and go with the NXT Spray Wax. Your car will look just like you got through waxing it.

depending on paint how dirty/ dusty the paint is, make sure to either wash or use a detail mist first before using a spray wax. The car should look just waxed after the first wash after waxing. (atelast if the paint was precleaned properly before waxing). Being as that it rained for 2 days, I would bet you need to wash it first, especially if the car was parked under a tree.

Man, you guys are so lucky, you get rain in the summer. We have to wait for winter to see rain. I used to have a tape of a rainstorm that I would listen to, have the fireplace on and the a/c on full blast and pretend it was raining.

Here's something I do after such a scenario. First I dust the car with an automotive duster and then I spray a generous amount of nxt detailer and wipe off the water spots. Now this works only if you haven't driven the car. Once you drive it, then crud just builds up and your car then needs a wash. Hope this helps.
