  • strongest trim detailer??

hey, i have a lot of trim on my mercedes 300e 87' and it is really faded. quite noticeable now and i want to turn this practicly pitch black or as dark as possible. which product should i try out? use with a cotton terry cloth? or should i try to buff it in? price is no option but i dont' want to paint it

The liquid version of Trim Detailer has been getting a lot of attention lately for its ability to revive faded trim. Another option is the all season dressing in the detailer line. If these products don't do the trick you may want to give on of the trim dye products a try, they are a last resort option though.

im thinking of trying this one...

should i work it in roughly or just apply it onto the bumper and lit it sit? or a combo of the both? what else in addition should i use to make it darker, i don't care if it is shiny or not, i just want it to be dark

Gold Class Trim Detailer is about the best TD that I've used so far.

I think it would be a good idea to apply #39 to the trim & such, before you use the TD.......#39 will clean the trim as well as condition it too.

This step is not absolutely necessary though.

You could try Mother's back to black or a similar product from griots garage.

          As for application procedure...

"Shake well. For best results apply to cool surface in the shade. Apply evenly to the affected area using a clean 100% cotton terry cloth towel or applicator. Wipe off residue (if needed) with a clean portion of the terry cloth towel. Two applications may be needed if surface has been extremely neglected."

I've had good luck with the product when I buff after a few minute dwell time.

Keep us posted with your findings and don't forget the pics.

          Good luck.

There is also #38 Tire & Trim Dressing Gel, very similar to the Gold Class Trim Dressing. I give the slight edge to the #38. Both are GREAT products!

                Re: trim detailer

I know its been a while since this thread was posted but I just read it so I have some input. If you really want to renew the trim get yourself some Forever Black. It is available several places on the wab if you just google or yahoo "forever black". This stuff is so awesome I cannot explain. I speak from experience. It is a type of dye but is easy to use cleans up easily and lasts forever. I used it on the bumpers and trim of my 88 VW Jetta and it lasted for around 2 yrs till you noticed fading again. Also apply 2 coats. 1 one day and another a day or two later. You won't be disappointed. Hope this helps.
