I just came across these forums the other day and read through a bunch of stuff, but its never the same as getting the same advice directed specifically to yourself
I recently bought a black civic from a girl who didn't do a whole lot of paint care. It's a 99 so not too old but still old enough to see the neglect. There are quite a few swirl marks and a few other places that look like sticky fingers somehow smudged something permanently into the paint. Anyway, I've been researching detailing for a couple weeks and I'm ready to start taking this car on as my first detailing project. So far I've gotten the NXT car wash and the quik clay bar with some microfibre towels and a meguiars chenille mitt. Unfortunately I'll be working by hand because I cant afford a PC, although I might save up for one if I can't get the results I want by hand.
I've been stuck on what polishes to use and what techniques to use by hand. First off, is a cleaner really necessary after using a clay bar? What exactly does it clean? I'm not too familiar with what they do. And after that, what polish do I use? I'm thinking the Deep Crystal cleaner followed by swirl free polish (82) but I don't know if thats appropriate or not. I'm going to follow up with 2 coats of NXT wax and 1 of the yellow wax (26 I think?). Another question is what do I use to apply the waxes and polishes? Are those little foam pads soft enough not to cause more scratches, or do I need to use microfibre pads? I'm confident about my wash and clay technique but the rest I've never done before so any tips outside of what I just asked about is also more than welcome!
Thanks a lot!
