I am working on a single stage paint that is in pretty good condition but it has some deep swirls. I washed, then clayed the car then tried #9 with the PC and it did not help. Then tried Medallion Paint cleaner with the PC and no help. Moved up to a rotary with the Medallion and it removed a lot of the swirls but not all. What is the next agressive product to try? I ordered # 83 to give it a try - is this correct-I also have fine cut cleaner and med cut cleaner avail. In addition to the swirls I had some really bad water spots that were not removed with the rotary and Medallion cleaner-what do you recommend for that. Thanks. (using a yellow pad)

First a word of caution, if you're working on a single stage paint and it's original then you want to be careful as typically single stage paints are much softer than today's modern catalyzed clear coats, so be very careful around high points, body lines and edges.
Just a guess, are you working on a 1974 Volkswagen Thing? If so, these body styles have a lot of body lines.
M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish is fairly aggressive as far as cleaner/polishes go especially when applied with a rotary buffer. You might try applying it with the dual action polisher first at the 5.0 setting working a small section at a time.
The #2 Fine Cut Cleaner and the #1 Medium Cut Cleaner should only be applied using a rotary buffer in most case. You might be able to get away with it using the dual action polisher because you're working on single stage paint however.
If I had to list these 4 products in order of aggressiveness starting with the most aggressive first, it would look like this.
M01 Medium Cut Cleaner
M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish
M02 Fine Cut Cleaner
Medallion Paint Cleaner

I would opt for M83 with the PC using a W-8006 pad.

Mike thanks for the suggestions. I tried the #83 yesterday with the Porter Cable DA and it removed most of the swirls but there are places where more action needs to be taken. I was at speed #5 with aprox 20lbs of pressure. What do you recommend-go to a stronger pad, go to a stronger product or pull out the orbital-too many decisions. Another question is does Meguiars make a smaller hook and loop and pad set-like 3" for tight spaces-if not I would like to see them in the future. Thanks again

The dual action polisher is limited to what it can do. It will never replace a rotary buffer. What you can and cannot do with a dual action polisher will be determined by a number of different factors, two big ones are paint hardness or softness, and also technique.
Read the below thread...
PC+83 not "cutting" it!
