    oxidized and dull paint of my girlfriend's car. its a 96 honda accord,
    the color is aubergine pearl (pretty much close to dark violet).

    to the forum

    Here is a great article about the 5 step process (a great primer to car care)......

    Additionally, Mike Phillips had good results using Color-X by hand....here is the link to the article:

    1986 Ford Bronco II - Extreme Makeover (http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88) As luck would have it, I was in need of a good before and after vehicle to demonstrate Meguiar

    Have a read through the articles and feel free to ask any questions.

      Hi vvti,

      Here are two ways to approach this, one uses less step and the other is multi-step, multi-step processes usually yield the best results.

      Least amount of steps method
      • * Wash
        * Clay the finish to remove above surface contaminants
        * Apply ColorX thoroughly to each panel

      Multi-Step System
      • * Wash
        * Clay the finish to remove above surface contaminants
        * Clean the paint using ScratchX working a small section at a time, working the product thoroughly against the finish, and then when finished with one section, move onto a new section and overlap into the previous section.
        * Polish with Deep Crystal Polish
        * Apply two thin coats of a wax of your choice

      Either of the above systems will produce stellar result as long as you do a good job of working the ColorX into the finish for the first system, or do a good job of working the ScratchX into the finish for the second system.

      The key to a nice looking finish when you're starting with something neglected is alway determined by the paint cleaning step as this is the step where you remove the defects.

          ScratchX.

          ScratchX is a dedicated paint cleaner while ColorX is a paint cleaner, polish and wax all-in-one.

          You will typically get better results when you use a dedicated product for a dedicated process or step.

          If your goal is to really remove defects, then go with ScratchX and do a really good job of applying and working the microscopic abrasives against the finish.

                  thanks.
                  If only want to do one thing, (besides washing), then ColorX is the best product for neglected paint.

                  One Step system
                  * Apply a cleaner/wax like ColorX

                  If you want to do everything you can to restore the paint and get the best results possible, then a multi-step approach will typically yield better results, this will mean doing 2 to 3 things to the paint, for example, after washing, apply ScratchX, then a pure Polish like Deep Crystal Polish, followed by a wax, see below

                  Multi-Step System
                  * Clay paint if needed
                  * Clean paint with dedicated paint cleaner
                  * Polish paint with dedicated pure polish
                  * Wax paint with a pure wax

                  What is your car care goal for the car?

                  Do you want to invest a lot of time? (Multi-Step System)
                  Or
                  Do you want to do the minimum in order to make the paint look good again. (One-Step System)

                  It's all up to you and what you want.
