  • Smudge on windshield?

I've been lurking these forums for a while and fortunately every question I have had has been answered somewhere already on here...this place is LOADED with info! I just wanted to thank everyone involved here that help so willingly...you guys make my life easier!

Now...to my problem. I was detailing my Xterra and got to the windshield using the NXT Glass Cleaner (AWESOME stuff) and noticed a smudge on the interior side of the glass. It sort of looks like some sticky liquid residue, so I tried to use a bit of Goo Gone to get it off. It removed some of it, but there is a faint haze that just refuses to go away. I have scrubbed and buffed on the thing and it is worse than a mother-in-law that won't leave (not that there's anything wrong with mother-in-laws.....ahem...anyway).

Now...here's the thing. I purchased this vehicle last week brand new (only 12 miles on it). I didn't notice the smudge when I was testing it or even driving it home...but it stuck out like a sore thumb when I was detailing. Before I contact the dealer, have any of you guys run into anything like this? Is something like this covered by a dealer since it's so new?

I'm going to try a few more things before I contact the dealer, so that's where you guys come in! Is there anything besides a razor and some Goo Gone that I should use to get rid of this junk?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey mediaase

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Do you have any pictures of the smudges/haze? You need to be real careful as some vehicles have a special coating on the inside of the glass that can be damaged. Can you post some pictures so we can see what we are dealing with?

WELL....came home for lunch break and tried a tiny razor blade with some Goo Gone for the lube....worked like a charm! Amazing what a a difference a lil razor will make.

Oh...then I cleaned it all up with NXT Glass Cleaner....man...that stuff is gonna have my baby one day! I love it!

          Hey,

Glad to hear that it all worked out for you!!

**But again, just a word of caution for MOL members, you must be careful what you use on the inside of the windshield. Some cars have a special coating in the glass; others have it on the inside of the windshield. As such, you should avoid strong chemicals or other tools that have the potential to damage this coating.
