    Please Help

Just picked up a used civic and the dealer evidently put wax on the windshield which now causes my wipers to skip like you wouldn't or would believe. Is there anything I can do to take the wax off I don't understand why someone would put wax on a windshield.

I put it on to help water sheet off and make bugs easier to remove. RainX will also make wipers skip, I only had the problem on one of my vehicles when the rainX was fairly fresh.

You will find others here on MOL that use wax on their windows.

You could use a paint cleaner like Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner to remove the wax.

        Hey,

Try and find out what the dealer actually used on the glass. If it is RainX, it can be a pain to remove but can be done with Bar Keepers Friend, or an alcohol solution. I would advise you to visit RainX's website for further info if it turns out to be RainX.

If it is just a wax or sealant, using a paint cleaner like Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner as the other poster suggested would work just fine.

Just use a good glass cleaner with OOO rated steel wool . Dont use wool on mirriors or inside of tinted windows. Just lightly rub wool then wipe dry with lint free papertowel or micro fiber . you may need to clean or replace your blades also

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I just tried the paint remover. Have to wait until it rains again.

            Thanks again!

This product here works very well for cleaning and polishing glass by hand with a piece of terry cloth.

I always use Mike's combo of the #4 and a W-7006 pad with the rotary spinning about 1500 rpm. If you choose this method, try and park in the shade so that the windshield is cool. Also, tape up any plastic trim on the cowl as you will most likely get some buffer sling. Mike's method works awesome!!!

You have a strong washer fluid.

Makes sence to me. Probably the bug removing one for the summer?

If I had to guess I would think you could use just about anythign to remove RainX or Wax.

You could probably use glass cleaner to remove it.

Dang! No wonder, it's been driving me crazy. No matter what I try the wipers STILL skip.

Although I have never tried it but I would think any wax would help repel water on glass.

Here is a post on cleaning glass... maybe you have seen it:
