Is there anyway to heal scratched chrome on rims? The rims are partly chrome, and a sponge (the ones with a soft yellow side and a rougher green side - the green side was used) was used on them. They are fine grain scratches and not completely extreme. Help?

This question comes up ever Saturday at our detailing classes and the short answer is actually No, scratches in chrome cannot be removed because in order to remove a scratch in anything, you have to remove all of the material around the scratch until the highest points of the surface are equal or level with the lowest points of the scratch or defect.
Chrome is a very thin coating and does not lend itself well to abrading.
Our polish may improve the appearance of the chrome over all, and...
"You never know what you can do until you try"
But the short answer is no.
Sorry.

are there places that can buff the rims to level out the chrome? and if so, an extremely rough estimate of the process would be greatly appreciated. there is only chrome on the inner ledge of the rim, right before it meets the spokes. spokes are painted.
