  • Slight swirls

Hi everyone, the other day I noticed some slight swirls on my month old Subaru WRX. They are all over the car, but they are pretty light. I tested all of my microfiber and waffle weave towels on a CD to see if they scratch, and none of them did. The last thing I tested was my no-name chenille mitt, which covered the bottom of the CD with scratches.

So tomorrow I'm going to go pick up a quality wool mitt, and something to get rid of the swirls. I was wondering if I would need to use ScratchX since the scratches are not very deep.

I was thinking about using the DC#1 cleaner to remove the swirls, but I have no experience with this kind of product so I do not know how effective it will be at removing these. Following the DC#1, I would use DC#2 and NXT Paste Wax.

So basically the question is, is DC#1 effective at removing slight swirls, or should I go to ScratchX?

    Thanks.

DC 1 is a paint cleaner IIRC. DC 2 is the polish but I dont thikn it is abrasive enough to remove any defect you would have. I would try for some Color X or better Scratch X. It will be long tedious work by hand but I think you can acheive what you set out to do with some patients.

Yes, DC#1 is the cleaner. This is what the Meguiar's E-Store description of it says:

This non-abrasive paint cleaner has been improved to deliver even stronger performance with no chemical odor. It safely removes road grime, surface contamination, light oxidation, swirls and light scratches to restore damaged and dull finishes. Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner prepares all paint finishes for polishing and waxing.
I figured since it's advertised as being able to remove swirls and light scratches that it would work for me, but I just wanted to make sure.

I would try DC#1 first, and if that didn't do it then you could try ScratchX.

DC#1 will work better if you can apply it with a DA, or an orbital.

Ok, I'll try the DC#1 first.

I don't have a DA and was unfortunately (for my arm), planning on doing this by hand.

I will be buying a DA eventually, most likely within a few months. However, I don't want to wait until then for this because it just annoys me looking at these scratches and I need something to do tomorrow.

Thanks to you both for all your help.
