Cleaning Ceramikrome

Hey all,
New exhaust on my bike... the pipes are Ceramic which is polished to look like chrome... they call it Ceramikrome.

The directions say to just clean them with a rag lightly damped with gasoline.

Does that sound right? Or should I use something else to "protect" the pipes from staining?

And how will I get shoe rubber off of the pipes (cause i know i'll get some on there some time), i dont think a little gas will take that off, lol

Maybe something like #34 Final Inspection. Something that has mild cleaners but no wax or gloss enhancers.

If the manufacture is recommending Gasoline to clean this coating, it must be pretty durable and resistant to hash chemicals?

I'll try to find something out about this type of coating before making any recommendations.

Hi integraoligist,

Well I've already heard back from Mike Pennington on this and just to let everyone know, Mike Pennington is our Director of Training and he works with a wide cross-section of manufactures from all kinds of different industries with their particular products and as such has a lot of information available to him on all kinds of materials and surface coatings.

He as replied that currently Meguiar's doesn't offer any products for Ceramikrome coatings and at this time you should always follow the manufactures recommendations for cleaning and maintain this coat as they know their product better than anyone.

I have another front Ceramikrome pipe (that i had on the bike for about 3 weeks)... i do have shoe rubber on the pipe so i tested the manf. reccomendation of using Gas on a rag. Of course it didnt take the rubber off... has a good smell though

I did get an e-mail back from them about this, and i told them that gas didnt do anything... but i do have Mother Aluminum/Mag polish sitting here... they said it should work.

tried it, and after some picking with my fingernail and alot of rubbing i DID finally get it off.
I also asked them if there was a "polish" or sealent i could use to make this a bit easier next time. They said they dont know.

gotta love that.

But like you said, I assume it's pretty durable... as long as I dont get any wax on it...

I will tell you this... it is VERY easy to scratch this Ceramikrome. or "Polished" Ceramic (whichever you would like to call it)

I'm glad you shared this with our forum as it reinforces the fact that while a coating my be durable from it's hardness, it can still scratch easily and thus the reason to test new products and procedures in inconspicuous areas first.

i just got a e-mail back again from the manfu. of the pipes...

Yes Windex will work o.k. on cermakrome, also brake clean will work, as well as the green polish.

I have a question reguarding the name of these pipes...
The place i BOUGHT them from call them "Cermikrome"...
In the instructions that came with the pipes they are called "Polished Ceramic".
The actuall Manuf. of the pipes call them "Cermakrome".

Now, is there any diffrence between the 3, or no?
These people confuse the hell outta me... no one has the same answer twice!
