Scratch On Black Plastic Side Mirror Housing

Hi guys
I have a scratch on my plastic side mirror and was wondering what I should use to remove/mask it. It is fairly deep and can be felt with a fingernail. Will PlastX work or do I need some 2 step process?

First, this is a painted surface not bare plastic so paint products would be in order.

Secondly and unfortunately that scratch looks pretty bad and likely will require touch up paint. Not likely something any compound is going to fix.

OK thanks. So basically touch up and clearcoat then buff and polish?

Some touch up paints do not require applying two different types, i.e. color then clear coat. I'm not an expert in touch up paint but do know a little. Would recommend seeing if you can find a OEM option if you go that route. You might also look into one of these pens:



You could also have the entire side mirror re-painted by a quality auto body shop.

Although not an invisible repair, you can significantly reduce the visibility of that scratch using Dr. ColorChip products.
We reduced the visibility of three deep scratches on a door during a Thursday Night Open Garage.

Should you not like the results immediately after application, you can use their SealAct solution to remove all of your patch.

Optionally, could you wrap one or more sections of the mirror in a contrasting color?
