  • Did It Dry Too Fast ?

I waxed my 1 month old black Hyundai Sonata on Saturday and used the NXT Paste wax...I had done a gold 96 Acura TL a few weeks ago and it was amazing how easy it went on and came off.....this time however, I was somewhat disappointed as when I pulled the car out from the garage when I was finished to admire it, I noticed that there were swirl marks most noticably on the trunk and hood....the only way I could think to get them off was to put a little more wax on the surface and quickly remove it...don't knowwhy I thought that would help but it did....still not sure if I did something wrong though...the car was washed the night before and sat in the garage until the next morning when I started to wax it so it was cool....I waxed the whole car and then removed it.... I was going to take pictures but didn't want to wait any more before I tried to remedy the situation....any comments would be appreciated....thanks !

    Here's a couple ideas...

It's a little more difficult to lay down a thin coating of wax when using the NXT paste wax over the NXT liquid wax. In order to do so, you really need to focus on technique for removing the wax out of the can and spreading it out thinly and uniformly. By uniformly, we mean adequately working the wax into the finish before moving to a new section.

Using a quality applicator pad to apply the NXT Tech Wax Paste is also important, either the foam applicator that came with the wax, or a replacement foam applicator pad, or our new Even Coat Microfiber Applicator pads will go a long way in helping you to apply a thin coating and work the wax in well over the entire finish.

Removing with a plush microfiber or soft cotton towel will help to not only break up the dried wax and remove it from the surface, but it will also help to prevent instilling any toweling scratches in the process.

One last thing, is drying time... Meguiar's waxes only need to be left to dry on the paint until they for and average of 10 to 15 minutes, sometimes 20 minute if the humidity is high and the temperature is low. Thick coats will take longer to fully dry and then be more difficult to remove.

I don't know if any of the above would apply to your situation, they are just meant to be some insight and comments...

    One additional comment...

Anytime you have a problem removing a product or if you see any irregular appearance issues, often times the best remedy is exactly what you did and that is to reapply the product to the area, allow to dry and then remove. Sometimes when unsure of the problem it helps to reduce the size of your work area and work a section at a time. So you did well in your recovery from the issue.

Thanks Mike....I actually used the foam applicator that came with the paste...I thought that might have been the problem so when I reapplied I used a new cloth applicator (Not sure it that's what you call it but it's like a terry cloth applicator)...I did have the car treated when I bought it with Auto Armor and wondered if that had something to do with it...if it happens again, I'll take pictures and post them....thanks for responding....I love this forum but not so sure I'm going to like dealing with a black car
