  • Newbie here - Thanks to Meguiars and this forum...

for all the great tips. For the first time i detailed my wife's Honda Pilot this past weekend. Here was my process:

    1) Washed with the Deep Crystal wash with the two bucket method.

    2) Used detailing clay (had to use Mothers as I was unable to find Meg's at any store in my area)

    3) Scratch-X to remove a lot of surface scratches. After my first go 'round the car, it had done an okay job. But I spent a little more time on one particular scratch and it completely removed it (at least to my eye). So I went back on some of the other ones and put a little "passion" into it. Rubbed for over a minute on each one and added a second layer. Took out all of the scratches save the 2 that were too deep. Amazing results.

    4) Used the DC1 Paint Cleaner on the whole car.

    5) Used the DC2 Polish on the whole car.

    6) Initial coat of NXT Tech Wax. Let stand for 20 minutes and wiped off.

    7) Additional coat the following day.

My wife was completely amazed at how the car looked. Very happy.

I do have one question: There seems to be a color inconsistency in places. No swirling or hazing just deeper patches of black than others. The areas that are lighter look perfect but the deepness seems slight off. I doubt anyone could tell by just passing by but I wanted to know if there was something I missed or didn't do.

Thanks to this forum for picking up a lot of good tips. Any help on my one issue would be appreciated.

    Hi bpjauburn,

Seeing that this is your first post, Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

It sounds like you did everything perfectly! The regimen you followed introduced your paint to a lot of products in a short amount of time, especially Meguiar's rich polishing oils which will add a lot of clarity and richness to paints, it could just be an abundance of these polishing oils in some places an not others. Typically a second coat of any wax will even out the appearance of all the previous work done to the finish. It's not a problem to the paint at all, just to your discerning eyes. It will even back out the next time you wipe the finish down with a quick detailer or wash the car.

One thing that's real important with Tech Wax and really any wax is to do your best to apply a thin uniform coat especially when applying waxes by hand. The dual action polisher is so good at this while our hand takes more focus on the task at hand.

We own a black 2004 Pilot and after removing the Dealer Installed Swirl Option, (DISO), I quickly became a very big fan of Meguiar's spray waxes as it allows me to quickly maintain that "Just waxed look" in about 20 minutes.

Thanks for the information. I am looking forward to doing my 2002 Altima (also black) next weekend. You guys really make some good products that are easy for novices like me to use. This forum has also been invaluable for getting to understand what needed to be done and how to do it.

      Thanks again!
