  • Clear Bra

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this.
Just wondering what opinions are of applying the clear
bra to ones car to protect the finish. Thinking of having the
hood, front fenders and rear view mirrors done on my car.
    thanks!!

I install the clear bras in my area in Australia but also have it on both my cars. I would definately also get the front bumper done as that area is most prone to stone chips. If you are thinking of doing it yourself, I would get the bumper done professionally as it does take some time to put on properly. You will also need to strip off any wax where you plan you install the clear bra. Check out my gallery and you will see (or not see) the clear bra on my cars.

ChrisX - I was skeptical about products like this. Not about it's protective cababilities, but because my car is black and I'm afraid it will show too easily. What are your thoughts?

No, not actually. I use the "Hot Topics" forum to move posts that are typically of great interest to people and frequently... Hot topics

The appropriate forum would be "Detailing 101", which after hitting the reply button I will move it there.

When in doubt, (for everyone reading this), the Detailing 101 is a pretty safe bet for any question.

        Thanks!

As long as the paint is in good condition I would do it. I applied one to my fiancee's SUV and it's going strong. It was applied April '04 and shows no signs of failure. It's kind of a pain in the rear to apply it yourself so I would recommend using a pro.

I've seen it on a black car. The guy did not maintain his vehicle so it did not look so good. I'm sure if you're car crazy and maintain it it should look fine. He did not remove wax build up on the edges so it looked bad. I'm sure this would not be an issue for you. The bra does show regardless of color but not at a distance. But 5 years down the line your paint will have nary a chip in it. So, what's that worth?

I got one for my truck and liked it so much I became a dealer. A year and a WNY winter later I have not one chip in the whole front of my truck. Get your rocker panels done also. Mine are so chipped up I have to have them repainted.

As Everglo mentioned above, as long as you treat the clear bra like the rest of the car (and being on this forum means you most probably do) there shouldn't be a problem. And years down the track you still have a chip free finish. If you decide to remove it then, easily done with no sign it was on the car in the first place. I had to get my car redone as when I had my bumper resprayed and installed the film, about a week later I noticed a large bubble in the air scoop. I took off the film (left no marks) had it resprayed but was told the bumper had been bogged as it looks to have been in an accident before. A replacement bumper later and respray again and the film is on again. Now I had some idiot reverse a 4x4 into my bumper and damage my license plate and film. I have had to take the film off again and now I have to respray just that damaged part. Lucky I install these myself.
