  • Color X and NXT paste wax usage.

I have a 1990 red, Pontiac Trans Am. I need to give it a polish/wax job, and I have some questions.

The paint is in good shape on the sides of the car. The hood, roof, and hatch area have reflectivity, but a bit of dullness, since these horizontal surfaces take more of a beating.

After preparing and cleaning the surface, I was going to apply some "Deep Crystal Polish", then some "NXT paste wax".

I just thought about substituting the "Deep Crystal Polish" with "Color X", since it is an "all around product" that would help bring out the color more.

Does this sound like a good idea?

Also, I want to apply 2 coats of the NXT paste wax. I've read on this website that you should wait 12 to 24 hours, between the first coat application, and the application of the second coat.

    Does this sound correct?

I was wondering if the NXT paste has too much cleaner in it, to put down 2 coats.

I don't want the second coat of NXT to remove the first coat.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

ColorX is a cleaner wax with polishing characteristics that will remove light swirls. It is NOT the same as a pure polish like DC#2 is. Polishes are pure oil with no abrasive qualities and will not remove any defects. However, since you are looking to get the shine back into your finish, then its probably a great idea to use this instead of a pure polish and should give some great results. Now about the NXT. NXT has no cleaners in it at all. A second coat of NXT will not remove any of the first coat, and actually it is recommended that you do use 2 thin coats. For best results, in order to let the polymers set up, the NXT wax should be applied about 12 hours apart but 24 is not necessary. If you cant wait 12 hours, which many of us cant, then it is ok to go ahead and apply another coat but wait as long as possible for best results and shine. If you cant wait 12 hours you will not sacrifice any protection. This is just to ensure uniform coverage as well as offer a great shine.

I will mention that it can be best to break you routine into a sort of 'full routine' and 'quick routine'. DC#1, DC#2, and 2XNXT make a great system, and ColorX + Nxt are another great system for a quick detail.

I'm sure I will be corrected if I am wrong but I would go with the Color X and then finisht with the NXT wax. Two coats should be fine as the cleaning properties are very fine.

If its pretty dull, I would use the color X. I have tried both, and the SC #2 polish, or #1 cleaner are not very strong, and by hand, your arm would fall off before a very dull car would be shiny again. On the other hand, I turned a pink dodge stealth red again with ColorX, including its spoiler that had little no to clear left.

I left some info in the other thread you started for the exact same topic.

                  dc #2 + nxt = great combo
colorx + nxt = great combo

depends on the condition of your paint...try a test spot...see which one you like...or use a different "prep" for the part of the car your applying to
