Is there any hope for my hood?

Hi all!

I'm a year + long lurker and have learned tons from the posts here during that time. I'm pretty much a casual detailer slowly being transformed into perfectionist .

For my first post and question, i bring to you the hood of my 10 year old Saturn SL2:



Now the question is, would it be worth for it to try ScratchX on the literally hundreds of pebble chip marks on the hood? Some are worse than others but they ALL look ugly.

Anything that is below the clear coat cannot be buffed out without going through the clear cloat.

I would try some touch up paint and some wetsand paper. A good guide can be found @BCC i believe.

Welcome to the forum Saqs!

There's not much you can do for rock chips, except touch up paint, or a repaint of the hood.

That looks just like my hood! I've got sonic blue paint on my Ford and have a few dozen little chips just like that.

Actually, I hadn't noticed just how bad they were until I clean, polished and waxed for hours this weekend. It really looks like the cleaner, polisher and wax filled in the chips. I didn't notice them (well hardly) when I was using the buffer. It was the next day after it dried I guess that they became so apparent.

Was there a way to avoid letting the cleaner/polisher/wax dry in the chip "well" that I overlooked?

Hi Robert.......Welcome to MOL!

Dremel makes a very small, straight, stiff brush that might be good for brushing away wax in small places.....This fits in their motorized tool, but it should work by hand too.
