  • New to Meguiars - Need Help

    Hello Folks !

I have been a car fanatic all my life, and have tried all waxes/polishes, from Liquid Glass, to Zaino to you name it !

I am now switching to Megiuars, and need the help of you fine people !

I have a 2004 BMW 545, Titanium silver/grey in excellent condition, it has a few coats of 'midnight special' polish that BMW gave me.......and very few swirls.

I understand I need to wash the car, then clay it......and finish it with two coats of NXT Tech wax, but is there something in between claying and the NXT Tech Wax ?

Also, planned to use the Meguiars fine detailer in between NXT waxing......

So, what do I use between claying and NXT, and is 2 coats of NXT the best way to finish the session

    thanks so much !

    Your question...

Since you already have some other products on the finish, it would be good idea to clean the paint after claying and before applying a wax. To do this, Meguiar's offers a category of product we call Paint Cleaners. These can be though of as intelligent alternatives to old fashioned rubbing and polishing compounds. All of Meguiar's Consumer Paint Cleaners are completely non-abrasive and gently clean the surface of your car's paint perfectly preparing it for either an application of a pure polish or to go straight to your choice of wax.

    Here are two options

    Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner

This non-abrasive paint cleaner has been improved to deliver even stronger performance with no chemical odor. It safely removes road grime, surface contamination, light oxidation, swirls and light scratches to restore damaged and dull finishes. Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner prepares all paint finishes for polishing and waxing. This is a chemical only paint cleaner and Meguiar's most gentle paint cleaner for light cleaning work.

    ScratchX
Guaranteed to be the most effective way to remove fine scratches and swirls from automotive paint by hand, ScratchX removes light surface contaminants, oxidation, and blemishes while it enhances paint color and clarity. ScratchX is not a “cover up” and will not cause additional scratches to your paint surface.

ScratchX contains a microscopic diminishing abrasive that enables it to remove swirls and scratches when worked against the finish using the proper technique. It's completely safe for light cleaning by only applying one application, or for more serious defects, you can apply 2-3 applications and really work it against the paint and get results like you see below where we remove the swirls out of a clear coat instilled by a rotary buffer.

    Before

    After

It sounds like the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner will be a good choice for your car's paint. After claying, apply with a clean soft foam applicator pad by hand, or with a W-8006 foam polishing pad using the dual action polisher. After applying and working it into the finish, simply remove using a clean, soft microfiber polishing cloth or a 100% cotton towel. There is no need to let a Meguiar's paint cleaner dry so go ahead and remove it after working it in.

Next, apply Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax. Apply two thin coats allowing each coat to fully dry before removing. This takes on average 10 to 15 minutes. After the wax has fully dried, remove using a clean, soft microfiber polishing cloth or a 100% cotton towel.

    Hope this helps...

well between those two steps is usually the polish. and that depends on the condition of your paint. you said you have swirls... are they all around the car or on a certain spot? do you want to remove the swirls? and do you have a g100 porter cable or a rotary buffer?
