  • Clear coat on wheels

Hello all. since my wheels do not have a clear coat and they become dirty very quick, ive been thinking that its the cause of having no clear coat. I saw this on autopia and started to wonder if it will work. well i know first i will have to completely clean the tire, wheel well and all. clay and everything.

of course, by then i hope to remove those marks or maybe even have them replaced.

Once you apply a clear coat finish to your wheels, you will then have to take care of the clear coat finish just like you do your car's paint.

I would opt for maintaining the polished metal over some rattle can paint. The metal will always be more durable. If you do want to clear coat them, you might want to talk to a professional painter and see what they say, perhaps get a price quote to see what he would charge to lay down some real automotive clear coat paint out of the gun if you do the initial prep work.

You might want to get some of the Michilin brake dust repellant. A few people have said it works ok, best used weekly.

Or maybe put a coat of NXT on them.

If you get the rims replaced (doubt it), you could try the CC on the old rims first

i have tried the michelin brake repellent but that was on my brothers s-10 and he only comes home on the weekends. and he never washes the car himself so i am the one to do it. we'll see how that comes along this saturday. And mike, i have posted a followup on that thread; what are your ideas???
