  • Which one step wax

I'll be sending my daughter off to Minneapolis (bad winters) with my wife's silver Tacoma. Which one step product do I send with her -- #12 consumer cleaner /wax or #6 professional cleaner/wax? She has not inherited my OCD problem, but she takes pretty good care of her vehicles. If it's easy to use she will use it.

I'm thinking that #12 might be the better of the two.

    No ColorX?

Well, the consumer is a bit milder, and the professional a little more abrasive. I would also mention ColorX as a possibility, as it will be a bit stornger of a cleaner. Could work well for you as well, or at least alternating some between a stonger and mild cleaner.

I wish I could make an informed comparison but I haven’t used #12 for a long time. I do love #6 but I can’t say it’s definitely the better choice. I’ve always felt that #6 lasts longer that a one-step has a right to (but #12 might also).

I ran out to the garage and put both on a fender. Both went on easy. I got the impression that #6 was easier to put on thin but I can’t say it with any confidence. Both wiped off easy.

I didn’t have anything oxidized, etched or stained to try it on so I can’t compare cleaning ability either.

About all I can say is that a bottle #12 costs less and is easier to find. Anyone who finds they’ve run out will have an easier time picking up another one just like it.

Paul makes some very good points, A1216 Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax is very easy to find. It's excellent for daily drivers as it offers mild cleaning action. This would be a good choice for her, easy on, easy off, great looking results. Down the road if the finish needs something stronger you can always use some ColorX to bring the finish back up to your standards.

            Thanks, guys.

I'll send her off with a good coat of NXT on the truck, a bottle of #12 and everything else that she will need to maintain the finish of the truck. If she keeps the truck in pretty good shape, I'll do an NXT detail for her when she is around.
