D151 vs. UC+UP

To detail my pearl white second gen. Honda CR-V daily driver, I currently use a Clay+UC (if necessary)+UP+Wax process by hand. Provided that I keep the car in good maintenance, I mostly skip the UC step and only Clay+UP+Wax the car, say, every three months.

I recently learned of the D151 Detailer Paint Reconditioning Cream product and had a few questions:

1. How is the cut compared to UC and UP?
2. How is D151 different from UP?
3. Can I replace UP with D151, or is D151 intended as an additional paint correction step? If so, after which step, and how often can it be safely applied to my car paint?

D151 is basically a strong cleaner wax that comes in bulk for production detailing ... a one-step for customers who don't want to pay for a multi-step detail.

THAT BEING SAID ... depending on what pad you use, and what speed your polisher is set to, the cut of D151 can really vary. I've used it at a 5.5 on my PC with a Meguiar's thin maroon cutting pad, on a heavily swirled truck and took out 85% or so of the swirls with little effort.






... and I've used it on my black Camaro with a Meguiar's thin, tan polishing pad at about a 4.5 - 5.0 on the PC in place of the Ult Polish, then topped it with Ult Fast Finish and got this:



So your mileage may vary. D151 is a very user-friendly, multi purpose product that covers a lot of bases depending on how you do things ... what pad, what speed (machine speed), arm speed & downward pressure. Just make sure you use it "wet." Meaning don't skimp on the amount you use on the pad, it works better if there is an ample amount of product ... just don't over do it so it splatters everywhere.

Thanks, Don. Enjoyed your photos and learned a lot.

I work by hand and so far still have the time to do multi-step paint correction, so it looks like I won't necessarily have to use D151 at this point.
