  • This really is black magic...

but not the good kind of magic. the bad kind in which you get hustled... i was at autozone restocking my supply of all wheel cleaner. so then i see the meguiars and next to it is some black magic all wheel cleaner. no scrubbing. that is what got me really excited. thinking ..hmm this seems good. good for all wheels and strong enough for it to not need scrubbing. so i grabbed it. i had it for a week and had never tried it.

oh btw, i know this rule breaks the rule #9. i am posting this to be weary of people purchasing this product and trying to find a cure

so then i clean my car, clay it, and then wash again and i wanted to end up with trying that new spray. the wheels were still a little wet since i washed before with meguiars gold class wash. i try it on my front passenger side wheel and wait 20 seconds and hose off. i follow the directions as they say to hose off within 30 seconds which i do. and then i look and scream in agony!! they are horrible!! so much hazing and it looks like someone... "[edited for content; 2hotford]" all over them!! i was soo mad!! i wanted to see if it was because i didn't agitate so try it on the rear passenger wheel, but only half the side and i got the same results!! i was so furious!!! nowhere on the bottle it says that i should try to do it in an inconspicuous area to see if it would do any harm so i thought this would be fine on my polished uncoated aluminum wheels. should i talk to black magic to see if i could get replacement wheels? they look horrible. ive used many other wheel products and none have done this to me. here is a picture...

where i sprayed is the top left of the rim, i had to take my mom to the mall thats why its not at the top anymore.... please give me ideas!

Try meg's Hot Rims followed by NXT metal polysh if the hubcaps are metal. What a bummer man, that is going to take some time to get them back to their previous state.

Edit: From the picture I thought they were hubcaps, but I upon closer inspection they are simply OEM wheels, definitely try Hot Rims and NXT metal polysh.

mm i guess. do i need to find those products at a professional retailer or are they found at local auto parts stores? i know the hot rims all wheel cleaner can be found almost anywhere.. but the nxt metal polish? where can i get that. i don't even see that at http://meguiars.com/estore/

      edit**
nm i finally saw it http://meguiars.com/estore/product_d...=G-130&store=% there it is. well where can i find it out of their site? i don't want to wait for them to ship or pay the extra money for it to be overnighted or something. is there anything i should apply after the nxt metal polish? whats the wheel brightener. i see that often but haven't seen it

I have seen the metal polysh at both Pep Boys and Autozone. The Wheel Brightener is a different product all together. It's a very powerful wheel cleaner that should only be used by the professional detailer. Your wheels would do fine with Hot Rims and an old sheepskin mitt. The metal polish can be applied with a foam applicator and removed with a microfiber towel. This will remove any stains or etching caused by the Black Magic wheel cleaner.

Call Black Magic and show them that picture. I tend to recommend Meguiar's Gold Class All Wheel Cleaner as it's non-acid, after you resolve the wheel issue and have restored the clarity, shine and brilliance to the metal, you can easily get away with washing with car wash soap and water if you wash often.

Uncoated, polished aluminum is very susceptible to dulling when you use the wrong product on it.

just sent an email to both PrdMktTechServices@Shell.com and SCD-ConsumerSolutions@Shell.com . it stated this. Tomorrow i will also call them. but i have a feeling luck will not be on my side... here is the email.

                    Hello BlackMagic employee
I have some unfortunate news to inform you about. i like to detail my vehicle every now and then, a 1987 mercedes benz 300e, and i like to know which prodcuts work well. i finished doing my reular work and to my demise, i am out of wheel cleaner. so i use my brothers truck and go to a local Autozone and pick up your BlackMagic wheel cleaner no scrubbing. What caught my eye was the no scrubbing part. it made me feel that it was a quality product, good enough that it did not need to be agitated. so i come back, and spray the front passenger side wheel with your product and then i wait 15 seconds before hosing it off. Beforehand i thoroughly read the directions and it said to rinse off within 30 seconds which i did. and now they appear to be stained. they have left marks all over. In addition, it did not meet up to my expectations to even remove brake dust. so i thought it was something wrong with that wheel or something. In addition, the wheels are original OEM 15 hole polished , non-clear coated wheels. i then tried it on half of the rear wheels and it did the same thing as the front wheels. i love to drive my vehicle and i have become known for driving my spotless car. But now i went to school and got several comments on my stained wheels. I am embarassed to have had this happen to me. The product never said to try it on an inconspicuous area and it said it was meant for all wheels. so i then thought it would be perfectly safe for my wheels. Is there a form of a reimbursement for my wheels or anything of that sort? here is a picture of the rear passenger side wheel. I hope to receive an response from your team promptly as i hope to have this fixed soon. Have a good day.

Rather than addressing the email to an employee, you want to address it to a supervisor or manager right from the beginning. This will show them the importance of the email. You also might want to capitalize the first letters after each period.

                          Hi LnkPrkSoldier

Sorry to hear about your problem with your wheel cleaner. Your email looks ok. If you dont get a quick response you 'may' want to try something like this.

                          Best of luck Rob

                          Dear Sir,

I am writing to inform you of my disappointment having just used your ‘Black Magic Wheel Cleaner’.

I like to keep my car (a 1987 Mercedes Benz 300E) in spotless condition and I was particularly keen to try out your product as it states that ‘no scrubbing’ is required – leading me to believe it was a quality product.

I followed the products instructions exactly and only let the product remain on the wheel for 15 seconds before hosing off. As you can see from the attached photo the wheel cleaner has appeared to burn in to my polished non-clear coat official equipment wheels, dulling the finish and leaving them in a very poor condition. Prior to using your product the wheels were in A1 condition.

Before I attempt to rectify the problem with other manufacturer’s products I would be interested to hear your thoughts regarding why this problem has occurred, and how the problem can be resolved to my satisfaction.

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

                          Yours sincerely
