  • #47 ok to use on cars???

anyknow know if using #47 (hard water spot remover) from the marine line would work ok on automotive finishes or is that a bad idea? To me, it seems like it might work better than the traditional vinegar solution that is usually used on water spots.

    Just a thought...

I remember hearing that it was tested on car paint but I don't think it faired very well. I'll ask around next week and try to get the skinny...

          Thank you sir.

I will get you an answer, but it probably will not be until Monday.

Last I heard about this was this product was tried and tested on automotive paints but the results were not satisfactory, at least no good enough to recommend, or pursue.

After I hit the Submit Reply button, I will forward the link to this thread and do my best to get an answer.

          Thank you for your patience...

I have been told that M47 Hard Water Spot Remover was formulated for use on Marine surfaces such as Fiberglas Gel-coats and Linear Polyurethane Paints. It was never formulated for, or intended for use on automotive paints.

I just sent off an e-mail asking this question. I personally have not tried this product on glass, so I don't have any first hand experience. I have however polished water spots off glass for over a decade by hand and with a rotary buffer using M04 Heavy Cut Cleaner.

Here's a thread that discusses this thoroughly if you read it all the way through.

I've been told M47 is safe and effective on glass but be careful that when you use it on verticle surface glass that it doesn't run down onto the paint.

Thanks for looking into this Mike. I was hoping to use it on some paint that is pretty thin and I am worried that heavy polishing would be too strong for it, but I guess not.
