  • re: #83

I have a quick question. I just purchased the #83 because my car just got out of the body shop and they left a bunch of swirl marks, and scratches on my car. Here are the listing order in which i worked on my vehicle:

    1) Gold Class Shampoo & Conditioner
    2) Quik Detailing with claying
    3) Scratch X
    4) Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner
    5) Deep Crystal Polisher
    6) NXT Tech Wax

I got rid of alot of the swirl marks and scratches but i still have a lot. Is the #83 product best used with the Dual Action? I ordered the #80 too. But i havent gotten it and wont get it until 2 weeks from now. But i am planning on detailing my car tomorrow. Any suggestions or ideas would be great.

Do you already have the DA, or still thinking about getting it? I am guessing your DC products were applied by hand. I believe ScratchX is going to be the most agressive you can get by hand. The #80, and #83 can be applied by hand, but the abrasives break down best with a DA. The ScratchX abrasives are designed to break down by hand. It is the breaking down of these abrasives that removes the swirls.

SO, yes, the #80 and #83 should be used with a DA, and the ScratchX will be about the best results you can get by hand. However, 2 or 3 applications can be used sometimes to get rid of stuff. Also, to save you a step, you dont need DC#1 after ScratchX.

With a DA, you can apply #83 then DC#2 with polishing pad (one pad for each product). After that NXT with polishing or finishing pad.

You don't need #80 right after #83, as long as you work #83 in nicely and break it down. If you have light paint, then you have even less to worry about.

I have a black Mercedes. Thanks for the help. I do have the DA. I am going to try it out tomorrow morning. But since the #83 is so abrasive, wouldnt it damage my clear coat/paint?

I think what mad ix is saying is that as long as you work the #83 enough the abrasives will break down and you won't need to worry about following with something to remove defects left by it.

I used #83 today with a rotary, I don't have a dual action. I was taking out 2000 grit scratches but it needed some work. Should I use another product before the #83?

It's ok to use the #83 with the DA buffer.

I'd really recommend going at it with #80 speed glaze using your buffer on the ~4.5 setting, after using the #83. Speed glaze is always a home run.

This is coming from a black car owner. (i'm actually taking a break from detailing my car as we speak too.)

M85 Diamond Cut Compound with a wool pad, or M84 Compound Power Cleaner with a foam cutting pad. Then move to the M83/W-8006 combo.
