NXT question for Mike Phillips & others.

1. I’m having StonGard paint protection film applied to my ride. The installer advises to remove any wax/polish that contains silicone. I’ve been using NXT atop of #7 and #83. Do these products contain silicone? If so what would you recommend to remove/strip them (dawn dish washing soap)?

2. I also need to remove some light paint scratches (from wife’s finger nails) under the door handles before the door cup pieces are applied. I obviously can’t get the PC buffer into the space so I need to do it by hand. The car is a black 04 Mercedes E500. In your opinion what product would be best to get the job done #83 or Scratch-X?

Did you ask him why it was important to remove any wax or polish that contains silicone? It would be interesting to hear his answer.

As far as I know, having a clean, polished and waxed finish will create the best surface for applying a plastic film to as it will create the most smooth surface to apply a film to, which should insure maximum uniform adhearance, plus make the paint look it's best under the plastic film. One of our local members, DETLMAN, applies these films, I'll e-mail him and ask him to post his comments on this subject.

ScratchX with a foam applicator pad, 1-2 applications, follow this with wax.

Always follow the manufactures recommendations. NXT Tech Wax is not body shop safe, the M83 and the M07 are body shop safe. If you want to strip the finish to insure it's clean, the best way would be to use a body shop safe paint cleaner instead of dish soap. The below Meguiar's paint cleaners are all body shop safe.

Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner
Meguiar's Clear Coat Body Scrub
Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner

Apply this to the paint, work in well and then wipe off. If you like, repeat this process to insure you've completely removed any trace of wax.
