  • Think I Messed Up..!!

    The auto is a Tri-Color Chevy Avalanche, paint # 800... (Pearl White/Cream)

Had a chip taken on the hood front..1/2 inch diameter...

Cleaned the area with a wax removal prep.
    Worked in a 2 X 2" area with 2000/2500 wet sand..and feather it out..looks good.
Used a white prime in a spray can with the hand trigger, feathered it..looks good..
Used D300 with the Directional DA buffer off a battery drill....Looks good...
Used clay bar and 3000 paper ..looks good...cannot feel a different between other area's..
Applied spray can with the base 3 coats.....applied the mid coat three times...
Sanded with 3000 paper, till smooth..
    Cleaned..
Applied the gloss clear coat three times...
    Now is flat and dull
Buffed with GI8016 a dozen times....
    Then GI8116 Polish....
Finish is now 50% shinny/glossy are compared to adjacent untouched factory finish...

    ..What to do next....???

There now is the factory finish, and in this 6 X 6 area, there are my new 10 coats of primer, paint clear coat...
I have a couple of the 6" cutting disks, should I use them and D300 and remove all my material and start all over....??
...Or take it to a pro and get it professionally repaired??? I push come to pull..I can buy the hood --Painted-- for $375.00..???

Hello Bill, first welcome to mol, I'm kind of new here myself and not the most experienced but if I understand correctly after the clear coat you went and buffed the area, Assuming there is enough clear I would wet sand the area maybe 3000 if not then 2500 and polish after that, I painted part of my bumper once and that what I did and turned out good, Good luck.
