  • tire dressing problems

I've got an S-10 4x4 that looks awesome after #83, #80 and NXT, but my tires look like junk. I was using Hot Shine and it was working fine, but then decided to try out the two Endurance gels. After the first application of the high gloss, I noticed that after it wore off (much faster than anticipated considering the reputation of the product) I had a darker strip around the outer half of the tire where I had added an extra coat to get more gloss and now I can't get it to even out. I've tried APC at full strength, and the foam tire cleaner and it's not doing a thing.

I've already decided not to use Endurance on these anymore because of the raised white lettering and the almost unavoidable product sling, but I'm still stuck with with the unevenness. These tires are a year old with about 13,000 mi on them. I called product support and they said the tire cleaner should work, but it didn't. So far, every time I've had problems with a Meguiars product it turned out to be operator error, so I'm expecting this to be the case again.

I've also noticed that the tire cleaner doesn't really clean the white letters nearly as well as the APC. I'd rather just use one product to do the job. I've used the gel twice after cleaning with the tire cleaner and they look like junk again after about a week if that.

My #83/#80/NXT polished paint is making them look REALLY bad, so anyone who can help me out on this is my hero!

    Hi Dan,

Is it possible to take a picture and post it to the forum? Currently our photo gallery is down, but if you can capture the problem with a digital camera and e-mail it to me, I can place it into this thread.

I've never heard of a problem like this so I'm going to forward the link to this thread to Mike Pennington and Tom McDonald to see if they've ever come across this and to see if they have some ideas for a solution.

Have you tried the purple stuff at Auto Zone?

It's the strongest thing I've ever seen for tires. It has a strong alkaline base to it, so be carefull if you have uncoated, or anodized wheels.

Edit: On second thought, I wouldn't use it on anodized wheels.

I don't have a digital camera, but maybe I can borrow one or take some pictures with a film camera and scan them. I may just have to break down and get a digital! I have other questions that I need pictures for. Like how I was getting micro-marring with #83, then taking it out with #80, but now getting more of a mirror finish with the #83 than the #80, even when I tried a new pad. So many variables....

I haven't tried the "purple stuff" at Auto Zone. I may have to check that out. I'm not sure what kind of wheels I have. They're the ones that many 4x4 S-10s and Blazers from '95-present have with the 5-spoke design.

I don't know how soon I can get pictures up, but I'll get on that.

        Thanks!
