  • touch up paint question

my almadine black mercedes has a number of rock chips on the hood and front bumper, and unfortunatley it seem that the undercoat is white, so when the car is clean, it has white freckles.

i just bought some touch up paint from the dealer, the kit has paint and clearcoat, both applied by little brushes.

question is, should i just wash the car, and the apply paint/clearcoat , or wash , and wax, and then the touch up.

my other idea was just to use a shapie and fill in the spots,

almaidine black is a purpleish metalic color for if thats give u an idea.

    thanks

wash very very throughly, make sure there is NO dirt at all in the chips. Dry and then dry some more. The you can put it on, and let it sit. If it were me, i would wait a few days to wax it. That way the paint can cure and get completely dry on its own first.

If you can leave the car in the sun for an hour or two to really dry out the chips, that is the best. Then let the car surface cool down. Best tip I ever got from a body shop was to use a cardboard match to do the touch up. Just tear a match from the book and use the feathered torn end to apply the paint. The secret is that it will not hold too much paint. The touch up brushes hold too much paint and you will end up with a drop of paint which sits above the surface of the car. Two thin coats are better than one.
Try it, you will never use a brush again.
